Anxiously waiting for graduation exam scores for university admission

The Department of Education and Training (DET) is grading the 2025 high school graduation exam and is expected to announce it on July 16. This year's graduation exam scores are expected to fluctuate due to the difficulty of some subjects, especially Math and English.

Many candidates, after completing the 2025 High School Graduation Exam, have had to review their university admission options to increase their chances of admission. Instead of being admitted based on high school graduation exam results, many candidates said they would switch to being admitted based on their ability assessment test scores or high school transcript scores.

Consider the beneficial selection options

Many candidates participated in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam with two goals: to graduate and to apply for university admission. With the changes in the high school graduation regulations this year, candidates will have more opportunities to graduate, because the high school transcript accounts for 50% of the admission score, the remaining 50% depends on the results of the graduation exam, while in previous years this ratio was 30 and 70.

Head of Admissions Department of Lac Hong University Nguyen Van Trung said that in this year's high school graduation exam, the Math and English exams were considered difficult, while these are two subjects related to many admission combinations from group A (Math - Physics - Chemistry), group B (Math - Chemistry - Biology), group D (Math - Literature - English). Besides, there are many other admission combinations related to Math and English, and if just one of these subjects has a low score, it will affect the competitiveness of the candidate's admission opportunity.

In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University will continue to prioritize admission of high school graduates from 149 high schools nationally, including 12 high schools in Dong Nai (new). Among the 12 schools in Dong Nai that are prioritized for admission, there are 9 schools in Dong Nai province (old) and 3 schools in Binh Phuoc province (old).

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, if the graduation exam results are not satisfactory, candidates still have many opportunities to be admitted to university with the ability assessment test scores organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University. In addition, this year, many universities in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai still maintain admission based on high school transcripts. This is a form of admission that puts less pressure on candidates and the chance of admission is also quite high and candidates should take advantage of it.

Pham Thi Mai Huong (in Trang Bom commune) said that she planned to apply for the English pedagogy major at Dong Nai University with the admission combination of Math, Literature and English, but unfortunately she did not do as well in Math and English as expected. "What I care about most right now is the goal of passing the high school graduation exam, and for university admission, I will have to switch to admission based on the ability test score to have any hope. Besides, I also consider the option of applying for admission based on high school transcripts to another major at a private university" - Huong said.

Grasp the university admission milestone

At 8:00 am on July 16, when the Ministry of Education and Training announces the 2025 high school graduation exam scores, candidates will begin to take steps to register for university admission and adjust their admission wishes and pay the admission fee on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission portal until the end of July 28. Candidates will not be limited in the number of times they can adjust their wishes on the admission portal, but they should note the final deadline before the end of July 28. Candidates need to arrange their wishes in order of priority to ensure their rights, because when the highest wish is admitted, the next wishes will not be considered.

It is expected that from August 20, schools will begin to announce the first round of admission scores. Candidates who are admitted must note that they must confirm their admission online. After 5:00 pm on August 30, if a candidate has the opportunity to be admitted but does not confirm their admission, they will be removed from the admission list without the right to appeal. Even candidates who are admitted through direct admission or priority admission must confirm their admission online within the prescribed time limit to have their admission results officially recognized.

To avoid the risk of being “wrongly rejected” at the university gate, candidates need to carefully study the admission information and admission regulations of the training institutions. In cases where the training institutions organize separate forms of admission registration, requiring candidates to submit their application and evidence directly or online at the training institution, candidates must still register on the general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training to be considered for admission together with all other candidates.

Candidates must accurately declare and be responsible for their personal information, including information to enjoy regional priority and priority subjects (if any) at the time of registration for the 2025 High School Graduation Exam. The declared information must be honest and accurate, especially the information about the candidate's permanent residence at each stage will be checked and verified by the authorities on the basis of population data. Candidates do not need to worry about information about their place of birth before and after July 1, 2025, the time when district-level administrative units are abolished and provinces and cities are merged, because the Ministry of Education and Training's enrollment system will be synchronized with the candidate's information on the National Population Database System.
