Many places have rain over 400mm, flash flood and landslide warnings in more than 700 communes and wards

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting issued a warning bulletin about flash floods, landslides, and land subsidence due to heavy rain or water flow in the provinces of Son La, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh , Lang Son, Quang Ninh and from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri.

Accordingly, in the past 24 hours (from 9:00 a.m. on August 25 to 9:00 a.m. on August 26), the provinces of Son La, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Lang Son, Quang Ninh and from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri had moderate rain, heavy rain to very heavy rain such as: Muong Do 1232.4mm (Son La); Cao Pha 3 295.8mm (Lao Cai); Van Mai 483mm (Phu Tho); Van Xuan 1 555mm (Thanh Hoa); Hua Na Hydropower Plant 467.2mm (Nghe An); Ky Phong 439.4mm ( Ha Tinh ); Hoa Son 254.2mm (Quang Tri)...

Soil moisture models show that some areas in the above provinces are close to saturation (over 85%) or have reached saturation.

Warning, in the next 3-6 hours, the above provinces will continue to have rain with common accumulated rainfall as follows: Quang Ninh, Lang Son , Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang 20-40mm, some places over 70mm; Phu Tho, Son La, Lao Cai, Thanh Hoa from 30-70mm, some places over 120mm; Nghe An to northern Quang Tri 10-30mm, some places over 50mm.

In the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes in more than 700 communes and wards in many provinces; some localities have very high warning levels.

Warning level of natural disaster risk due to flash floods, landslides, land subsidence due to rain, floods or water flow: Level 1, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh level 2.5.

The meteorological agency also warned that flash floods and landslides can have very negative impacts on the environment, threaten people's lives; cause local traffic congestion, affect the movement of vehicles; destroy civil and economic works, causing damage to production and socio-economic activities.

Local authorities need to pay attention to reviewing bottlenecks and key locations in the area to take preventive and response measures.
