Ninh Thuan students wonder about jobs in the nuclear power industry

Nuclear industry job opportunities

In response to the news that the construction of the nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuan will be delayed, student Nguyen Hoang Thanh Truc, class 12A1, Chu Van An High School, is worried: "Currently, there is information that the nuclear industry is still recruiting students even though the construction of the nuclear power plant has been delayed. Will we have jobs after we finish studying, because the plant will probably not be completed in 4 years?"

Mr. Tran Ngoc Anh, Deputy Director of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project Management Board, shared: “Currently, the management board is still carrying out the work assigned by the Government . This year, we will prepare the steps to start construction of items serving the construction. In 2015, we will start construction of the operation management area and the expert area in Phan Rang Thap Cham City.”

Mr. Anh said that when the factory is completed, it will need 2,200 workers. Of these, 880 will be university and post-graduate engineers, and 925 will be college graduates in various fields. The nuclear power industry alone will employ nearly 420 workers. "You can rest assured to take the exam and study these fields because after graduation, you will have high employment opportunities."

Student Le Dong Thao Nguyen, grade 12, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, asked: "This year, will the province recruit students majoring in nuclear power to study abroad in Russia? What are the conditions for participation?"

Mr. Tran Ngoc Anh informed: “In 2013, the Ministry of Education and Training recruited 70 candidates to go to Russia under the agreement between Russia and Vietnam. Conditions: studying block A, A1, achieving 23 points in the university entrance exam, average score of 3 subjects in 3 years of high school is 7.5 or higher. If the student is in the first year, the average score of the first semester is above 7.7. Students will be supported with a living expense 1.2 times higher than the highest level (1,440 USD/month compared to 1,200 USD/month). This year's quota is not yet available, so students should follow the information in the coming time".

Do you need to know how to swim to study navigation?

Worried about the requirements for studying marine science , student Tran Ngoc Tuan, Nguyen Trai High School, asked: "Does marine science require any health or swimming ability?"

Master Co Tan Anh Vu advises: “This industry has two majors: ship control and ship engine operation. There are some health requirements as follows: men must be 1.64 m or taller, women must be 1.60 m or taller. Weight must be 45 kg or taller. Total vision of both eyes must be 18/10 or taller, no color blindness. In addition, you must hear clearly when speaking normally at a distance of 5 m and whispering at a distance of 0.5 m.”

Master Vu added that swimming skills are one of the requirements of the profession. However, when admitted to the school, students will be trained in swimming.

Regarding job opportunities, Master Vu said that currently there are many seaport systems, Vietnam has participated in the world maritime market so the recruitment demand is very large. If students meet the requirements according to international standards, it is very easy to find a job with a high salary.

Meanwhile, student Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tien, class 12A1, Ischool High School, is interested in the medical and pharmaceutical industry under the province's financial support project.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Linh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ninh Thuan province, informed: “Since 2008, the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province has issued a decision on financial support for candidates admitted to the regular program at medical universities nationwide from 2011 to 2020. In 2013, 16 candidates admitted to Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine were fully sponsored for tuition and received monthly allowances.”
