Candidates who register for the 2006 General Education Program will take the exam all day on June 27. In the morning, they will take the combined exam as in previous years, and in the afternoon, they will take the Foreign Language exam.
The English and Geography exams are highly difficult, requiring synthetic thinking.
Coming to the elective exam, most candidates were less stressed than on the first day of the Math and Literature exams. However, many candidates left the exam room in a rather anxious mood, especially after the English and Geography exams for candidates taking the 2018 General Education Program. The general assessment at many exam sites was that the English exam under the new program was highly difficult, the structure had changed, and required a lot of reading comprehension and a rich vocabulary, causing pressure on even good and excellent students.
Ha Hai Dang, a student taking the exam at Phu Ly A High School, shared: I did quite well on the Physics test, but English was really difficult. The test had strange vocabulary, a long reading section, and some parts required careful analysis to understand. Candidate Nguyen Hong Ngoc, also taking the exam at Phu Ly A High School, commented: History was not too difficult, if you memorize the lesson you can do it. But for English, the reading comprehension section is quite large and it is not easy to get a high score.
At Bien Hoa High School for the Gifted, many candidates said that this year’s exam was not exactly a puzzle, but the structure and way of asking questions in the English exam had clearly changed. The exam included many types of questions such as fill in the blanks, connecting sentences, advanced reading comprehension, etc., requiring comprehensive skills. Reviewing according to the old model will hardly be effective.
Geography is the subject chosen by many candidates. Nguyen Gia Bao, a candidate at Phu Ly High School C exam site, shared: Geography requires a lot of calculation. But if I study the formulas, growth rate, and productivity carefully, I can do it. However, the test is not simple if I do not have a comprehensive mindset.
Despite the difference in difficulty between subjects, according to records at the testing sites, the majority of candidates completed the test seriously and focused. There were no violations of exam regulations, nor were there any special incidents recorded.
The exam took place safely and seriously.
According to the Departmentof Education and Training (GD&DT), on the morning of June 27, 12th graders took the elective exams according to the 2018 General Education Program in the last session of the exam. The first exam had 10,224 registrations, 23 candidates were absent; the second exam had 10,192 registrations, 20 candidates were absent. For independent candidates, registering to take the combined exam according to the 2006 General Education Program, candidates took the combination of Social Sciences and Natural Sciences, the exam time for each subject in the combination is 50 minutes; History and Geography each had 8 absent candidates, Civic Education, Chemistry, Biology each had 1 absent candidate; Physics had 2 absent candidates. In the afternoon, independent candidates took the Foreign Language exam; out of 54 independent candidates registered to take the Foreign Language exam, 4 were absent. On the final exam day, no candidates or invigilators violated the regulations.
Mr. Luong Van Duong, Head of the Examination Site at Binh Luc C High School, said: On the second day of the exam, candidates are more familiar with the exam atmosphere, but they are also prone to being subjective. Therefore, the invigilators always give gentle reminders and at the same time observe closely to provide timely support if candidates show signs of fatigue or stress.
The weather in Ha Nam on June 27 was less hot, and all testing locations were well prepared in terms of facilities: fans, drinking water, and waiting rooms for candidates who arrived early or had problems. The youth volunteers continued to play an active role, supporting candidates' families and authorities to ensure traffic around the testing area.
At many exam sites, local police proactively coordinated with local authorities to remind people to reduce noise and avoid gathering in large numbers to avoid affecting the exam. Rapid response teams were established and maintained at 100% of their staff throughout the exam.
Although there are still concerns about the difficulty of some subjects, especially Math, English, and Geography, this is also the first step in the process of innovating student assessment and evaluation towards developing learners' abilities.
It is expected that the results of the 2025 High School Graduation Exam will be announced according to the general schedule of the Ministry of Education and Training in mid-July.
