“Nam Mi has not met the professional requirements after the training period. We always prioritize professionalism and efficiency, so we regret having to make this decision. The team still has new faces such as Ngoc Minh Chuyen, Nguyen Thi Hoa or Quach Thu Em.

Unfortunately, the U20 team is busy competing so we cannot call up some young players to the national team . But I believe the current players are capable of completing the task," coach Mai Duc Chung said before the 2026 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers began.

Talking about the preparation of the Vietnamese women's team, coach Mai Duc Chung said: "Our goal is very clear, which is to win a ticket to the final round. All matches are important and the Vietnamese team will compete with the highest spirit. The opponents in the group are all worthy of respect, but Vietnam has good preparation in terms of strength and spirit to complete the goal."

In the qualifying round of Group E of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup, the Vietnamese women's team is in the same group with Guam, UAE and Maldives. In the opening match, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will face Maldives at 7:00 p.m. on June 29 at Viet Tri Stadium.

"We don't have a women's national championship, the players have to train with the men's team. Therefore, every time we participate in an international tournament like this is a valuable experience for the development of the team. Maldives fights with all their might, trying to bring the best matches," said Maldives coach Mohamed Athif.

Meanwhile, UAE coach Vera Pauw gave surprising information: "We refuse to use naturalized players in this tournament. The most important thing right now is to build a sustainable foundation for the future."
