In the qualifying round of Group E of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup, the Vietnamese women's team is in the same group with Guam, UAE and Maldives. In the opening match, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will face Maldives at 7:00 p.m. on June 29 at Viet Tri Stadium.
"We don't have a women's national championship, the players have to train with the men's team. Therefore, every time we participate in an international tournament like this is a valuable experience for the development of the team. Maldives fights with all their might, trying to bring the best matches," said Maldives coach Mohamed Athif.
Meanwhile, UAE coach Vera Pauw gave surprising information: "We refuse to use naturalized players in this tournament. The most important thing right now is to build a sustainable foundation for the future."
