Let's connect so that Long Thanh can really take off.

Flying to Long Thanh and then transiting at Tan Son Nhat, if passengers have to spend 5 hours traveling between the two airports to catch the next flight, no one will want to book a ticket.

When customers do not book tickets, airlines will not have enough capacity to operate flights to Long Thanh.

If it takes 5 hours to connect from Tan Son Nhat to Long Thanh, who would still want to fly?

One of the connectivity issues when Long Thanh airport is gradually being completed, speaking at the workshop "Promoting Long Thanh - Ho Chi Minh City connectivity", Mr. Nguyen Cao Cuong - Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) - said that there are still many issues to be resolved so that the airport can truly take off.

According to Mr. Cuong, the Long Thanh airport project includes 4 component projects, of which the core is component 3, the terminal and aviation infrastructure area, invested by ACV.

"Currently, component 3 has more than 3,000 engineers and workers working 24/7, along with 3,000 pieces of machinery and equipment operating continuously," said Mr. Cuong.

ACV aims to complete the terminal adjustment by December 19, 2025, a key milestone that the entire political system and the Government are paying special attention to and monitoring. However, Mr. Cuong emphasized that completing the terminal is not enough.

"Without a complete flight system and connecting transport infrastructure, the completed terminal will not be able to promote its value. The unsynchronized connection between Long Thanh and Ho Chi Minh City will make the exploitation of Long Thanh airport very difficult," he frankly shared.

Highlighting the practical challenges that ACV is facing, he said: "We always pray for favorable weather to maximize construction. Equipment has been imported, but the unstable international situation and war have increased costs and delayed transportation, creating a lot of pressure and difficulties for ACV."

At the same time, calling for the support and coordination from all levels, sectors and localities "come with us, connect together so that Long Thanh can truly operate effectively".

In addition to hard infrastructure, Mr. Cuong also pointed out another important problem: organizing flight operations and connecting flight networks.

According to him, operating an international airport is not only about serving direct flights but also taking into account transit factors.

"For example, passengers flying to Long Thanh need to transit at Tan Son Nhat. If passengers have to spend 5 hours traveling between the two airports to catch the next flight, no one will want to book tickets. When passengers do not book tickets, airlines will not have enough capacity to operate flights to Long Thanh," he analyzed.

Mr. Cuong emphasized that for Long Thanh airport to operate successfully, it is necessary to solve the problem of synchronous connection with Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring cities, especially organizing convenient traffic for transit passengers between Long Thanh and Tan Son Nhat.

This is a decisive factor in attracting airlines to open routes, ensuring passenger throughput and effectively exploiting one of Vietnam's most important aviation infrastructure projects for decades to come.

Long Thanh Airport must attract airlines and create convenience for people to come and go.

Associate Professor Dr. Vo Tri Hao, an expert at the Institute of International and Comparative Law, University of Economics and Law (VNU-HCMC), said that practical experience shows that many countries invest heavily in creating favorable conditions for passengers to travel from satellite cities to airports by taxi and public transport.

Dr. Hao noted that in the process of developing urban airports, it is also necessary to pay attention to health factors and people's needs, especially in the context of increasing people's income.

In parallel, there is a harmonious coordination between Long Thanh airport and Tan Son Nhat airport. When developing an airport, in addition to state capital, it is also necessary to prioritize private capital, because "money goes with the gut", investors have many strengths and invest heavily to make their capital effective and avoid risks.

Mr. Le Hoang Chau - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Real Estate Association - said that in many other countries around the world , airports are often moved outside, not located in the urban center due to noise and many specific problems related to airport operations.

When talking about "airport cities", Mr. Chau emphasized that it is necessary to understand that these are not simple urban areas, but are developed in conjunction with airport infrastructure, like the model in Long Thanh.

According to Mr. Chau, the country is entering a new era of development. Previously, many policies were local, but now Vietnam is shifting towards a comprehensive, regionally linked direction, going beyond locality.

It is important to make Long Thanh airport a destination of choice for airlines. Only then can the surrounding ecosystem develop.

In that context, if Long Thanh airport fails to attract airlines to exploit it, it will be difficult to promote its effectiveness. Like Tan Son Nhat, Long Thanh airport has many advantages in many aspects and can contribute greatly to economic growth.

The current problem is to develop into an urban strip, a network of connections at different levels, with the prerequisite of ensuring convenient transit traffic between Long Thanh and satellite cities.

If Ho Chi Minh City solves the traffic congestion problem, especially through metro lines, the airport in Ho Chi Minh City will further promote its advantages. From a real estate perspective, Mr. Chau assessed that Long Thanh airport opens up great prospects, especially for the Nhon Trach area (Dong Nai).

Promoting urbanization associated with housing development will serve the staff working at the airport, workers, along with hotel and accommodation services. When forming destinations, it is necessary to solve the logistics problem and effectively connect traffic to Long Thanh, thereby aiming for sustainable development and turning this area into a satellite city of Ho Chi Minh City.

Airport infrastructure development, housing demand is increasing

Sharing at the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Khanh, Director of Vietnam Trade Division, Gamuda Land, said that the company owns a strategic land fund in Dong Nai, right at the center of infrastructure investment in the key economic region of the South.

Three years ago, Gamuda Land had a land fund in Nhon Trach and the project is currently open for sale, receiving great attention from customers. According to Ms. Khanh, with the increasingly complete infrastructure connection and the demand for residential development, housing will be very large.

Regarding long-term development orientation, Ms. Khanh emphasized that one or two projects are never enough: "As a corporation with experience in developing large urban infrastructure in Malaysia, we are committed to sustainable development in Vietnam, especially in Dong Nai, where there is great growth potential."

"We come from the infrastructure development sector, especially strong in metro projects. When we came to Vietnam, we brought with us experience in research, infrastructure development, land funds and building sustainable urban areas in sync with regional infrastructure," Ms. Khanh shared.
