The entrance exam for grade 10 of Ha Tinh Specialized High School for the 2025-2026 school year left an impression with the outstanding achievement of Nguyen Minh Thu - a student of grade 9A, Le Hong Phong Secondary School (Thach Khe commune, Ha Tinh city), with a total score of 53.89, including English: 9.25; Math: 8.5; Literature: 8.75; History 9.13 (specialized subject).
From a student with a talent for Literature, Minh Thu boldly changed direction, devoted all her heart to History and excelled to become the valedictorian of this specialized subject with a specialized score of 9.13. This result not only made her burst with emotions but also brought pride to her parents, teachers and friends - those who have always accompanied her throughout the past journey.
Sharing about her turning point, Minh Thu said: “In 8th grade, I won third prize at the district level in Literature and was selected for the provincial team. Although I love Literature, during my studies, I gradually discovered a special interest in History through fascinating stories, events and characters.”
Switching from Literature to History was not an easy decision, requiring Minh Thu to adapt to a completely different way of learning and thinking. From being familiar with the way of perceiving and analyzing literature, she began to get used to systematizing knowledge, thinking according to the progression of events and historical arguments.
“At first, I also had difficulties because History knowledge is very broad and requires memorization and logical connection. But it was my passion that urged me to research, read more books and newspapers, and watch documentaries to understand more deeply about each historical period,” Minh Thu confided.
That effort was duly rewarded when she won third prize at the provincial level in History in the 9th grade. This is an impressive achievement for an "amateur" like Minh Thu. In the entrance exam to grade 10 of Ha Tinh Specialized High School for the 2025-2026 school year, to achieve a score of 9.13 in History, Minh Thu had a serious and scientific review process.
Sharing her study secrets, Minh Thu said: "I don't just memorize, but always try to understand the essence of each event and each historical period. I often create mind maps and summarize knowledge by topic to easily visualize and remember. In addition, I also spend a lot of time solving practice tests, referring to advanced documents and especially regularly discussing with teachers and friends about issues that I still wonder about."
Ms. Tran Thi Thu Huong, Minh Thu's homeroom teacher, could not hide her pride when talking about her little student: "Minh Thu is not only intelligent and hard-working, but also has a burning passion for History. When she decided to switch to studying History, I was very supportive. Thu is always proactive in her studies, often asking profound questions, showing her curiosity and thirst for knowledge."
Behind Minh Thu's academic achievements is the encouragement and wholehearted support from her family. Her father works in construction, her mother is a small trader. Despite their busy work and limited income, her parents always provide the best conditions for Minh Thu to study.
“Although my husband and I do not understand much about specialized knowledge, we always try to create the best conditions for our child to study. Seeing that our child loves History, we also encourage her to pursue her passion. My husband and I are very happy that she has achieved such results,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuan, Minh Thu’s mother.
With the title of valedictorian of History in the 10th grade entrance exam to Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Minh Thu has laid the first solid bricks for the future. Sharing her future dream, Minh Thu's eyes lit up with confidence: "I dream of becoming a People's Police officer. This is not only a career, but also an ideal I want to pursue to directly contribute to society. To achieve that dream, in addition to my specialized subject, when I go to high school, I will try to study equally in all subjects."
