On the evening of June 24, many Facebook users in Vietnam were surprised to discover that a series of familiar groups with a huge number of members, from hundreds of thousands to millions of people, suddenly disappeared without a trace.
Mr. Hoang Hai (living in Ho Chi Minh City) said that the group "Thanh Review" with more than 2 million members - a place where people regularly share shopping experiences and product reviews - has disappeared from Facebook.
“This afternoon, I went in and it was gone, only a sub-group with more than 75,000 members remained. If it was really deleted, it would be a pity, because building a community of millions of people is not easy,” Mr. Hai shared.
Not only “Review Saint”, many other groups also fell into the same situation. According to records, many administrators “cried out loud” when they suddenly lost their groups.
A Facebook group was suddenly suspended for unknown reasons.
The owner of a group with nearly 100,000 members said that Facebook suddenly announced the suspension of his account, and he is currently unable to access it. "I don't understand what's going on," he said.
On forums, users have been warning each other about the situation of "groups disappearing" for no reason, and at the same time advising administrators to tighten content censorship to avoid violating platform policies.
More worryingly, some people are also offering group recovery “services” at high costs. Many people suspect this is a scam.
Facebook has not yet made any official announcement. However, according to Mr. Le Hong Duc, founder of OneAds Digital Company Limited, the platform may be conducting a large-scale review.
“It is possible that Facebook is updating the system, filtering out fanpages and groups that violate policies. However, in reality, some groups that only post fashion advertisements and do not violate any regulations are still being removed. The situation is still being monitored to avoid unexpected group loss,” said Mr. Duc.
