Two prisoners who escaped from Xuan Ha Prison continue to receive sentences

On the afternoon of March 21, at Xuan Ha Prison ( Ministry of Public Security ) in Vinh Son village, Cam Son commune, Cam Xuyen district People's Court (Ha Tinh) opened a mobile court to try Phan Cong Thanh (37 years old, residing in Kim Ngoc village, Thach Chau commune, Loc Ha), Nguyen Dac Hoang (40 years old, residing in Hai Bac village, Cam Nhuong commune, Cam Xuyen) for the crime of "Escaping from prison".

According to the indictment, Phan Cong Thanh and Nguyen Dac Hoang are prisoners serving prison sentences at Prison Team No. 28, Sub-camp No. 2, Xuan Ha Prison.

At about 1:30 p.m. on December 6, 2023, Hoang and Thanh, along with 28 other prisoners in Prison Team No. 28, were escorted by prison officers from the detention area to the labor area (in the longan peeling workshop, in Sub-camp No. 2, Xuan Ha Prison) to work.

At 3:45 p.m. the same day, Hoang and Thanh asked the prison guards for permission to go to the restroom. At that time, it was raining heavily, and taking advantage of the terrain that obscured visibility, Thanh invited Hoang to escape from Sub-camp No. 2, Xuan Ha Prison.

After escaping from Xuan Ha Prison, Thanh and Hoang hid through the mountains to Cam Lac and Cam Minh communes, Cam Xuyen district.

At 1:45 a.m. on December 9, 2023, Thanh and Hoang were discovered and arrested by the Working Group of Sub-camp No. 2 in Village 5, Cam Minh Commune, about 5km from the detention center.

At the time of his escape from prison, Thanh was serving two prison sentences from the People's Court of Ha Tinh Province and the People's Court of Pho Yen City (Thai Nguyen) for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property" with a total sentence of 19 years in prison. As of the time of his escape (December 6, 2023), Thanh had served 2 years, 7 months and 12 days (16 years, 4 months and 18 days remaining).

Hoang is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for “Illegal drug trafficking” as sentenced by the People’s Court of Nghe An Province. At the time of his escape, Hoang had served 6 years, 6 months, and 7 days (13 years, 5 months, and 23 days remaining).

At the trial, Thanh and Hoang confessed their crimes. The panel sentenced Thanh to 26 months in prison and Hoang to 22 months in prison for “escaping from prison”.

Combined with the rest of the old sentences, Thanh must serve a total sentence of 18 years, 6 months and 18 days for both sentences, while Hoang must serve 15 years, 3 months and 23 days.
