Ha Tinh evacuates people in mountainous areas to avoid landslide risk

(Baohatinh.vn) - Before the forecast of heavy rain due to the impact of storm No. 5, Kim Hoa commune (Ha Tinh) mobilized all forces to urgently evacuate people in vulnerable areas to safety.

Kim Thuy is one of the villages with the most complex terrain in Kim Hoa commune, located at the foot of the mountain, facing a high risk of landslides during heavy rain and storms. As soon as the development of storm No. 5 was known, the locality made a plan to evacuate 12 households, with nearly 40 people, to a safe place.

"We held an urgent meeting and assigned specific tasks to each working group. The top priority is to ensure absolute safety for the people. The locality has also made a detailed list of households that need to be evacuated, especially families with the elderly, children and sick people" - Secretary of the Kim Hoa Commune Party Committee Pham Nguyen Binh informed.

The evacuation took place early in the morning, with commune officials, police, military forces and youth union members present at every alley and house to provide support.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan (Kim Thuy village) said: “After understanding storm No. 5 and having officials come to our house, explaining in detail about the danger of landslides, we carefully arranged our belongings. Especially, this morning, we received support from the local authorities to move to a safe place.”

Mrs. Tran Thi Lieu (87 years old) shared: “Because of my old age and weak health, I could not do much on my own when the storm came. This morning, the commune officials came to my house, helped me out of the dangerous area, and even helped me carry necessary belongings to a safe place.

"Although the evacuation work encountered many difficulties, especially the mentality of some people to stay, with persistent mobilization and timely support, people understood and cooperated" - Mr. Pham Nguyen Binh shared.

Single-parent households and the elderly were mobilized by local authorities to move to a safe place.

By 10am this morning, Kim Hoa commune had completed the evacuation of people to a safe area. The weather in the area is currently heavy rain with strong winds.
