
During the weekdays of August, Hanoi seems to put on a new, brilliant coat. Throughout the streets, the image of the red flag with yellow star fluttering in the sun becomes a prominent highlight, evoking national pride in the hearts of the people and leaving a strong impression on tourists.
Hang Ma area, Dong Xuan market is one of the most brilliantly decorated places on the occasion of National Day September 2. From the market gate to every small alley, shops are full of red flags with yellow stars, mixed with paper flags… serving shopping needs and creating an impressive scene.

Many foreign tourists leisurely strolled around the streets by cyclo, some chose to walk and stop to take photos next to the bright red flags stretching across the streets, enjoying the festive atmosphere spreading in every corner of the street.

Apolline (right), a tourist from France, strolling along Hang Ma Street with her family, said: “I was really impressed when I first came to Hanoi on the occasion of National Day. The vendors here were also quite friendly, they happily introduced to us the meaning of each item, from the red flag with yellow star, the traditional conical hat to decorative accessories… All of them reminded us of the spirit of independence and freedom of Vietnam.”

Arina, a tourist from Russia, strolled around the old town with her boyfriend. Although they only had 2 days in the capital before continuing their journey to Sa Pa, the couple still tried to visit the “hot” spots to experience the festival atmosphere and take beautiful photos together.
“When I first arrived in Vietnam, I was surprised to see the colorful streets. After some research, we learned that it was National Day. Seeing the bright red flags on the streets, I felt very happy and excited. The commemorative photos therefore became more beautiful and memorable,” Arina shared.

Not only foreign tourists, many young Vietnamese people also took the opportunity to go out to the streets to join in the important event of the country. In the Hang Ma area, groups of young people were radiant in Ao Dai, holding the national flag in their hands, enthusiastically posing for photos.
Thu Hoai (far left, born in 2005) shared: “During the summer vacation, my friends and I made an appointment to go to the old town to take a set of souvenir photos. Just walking around, there are many beautiful moments. Surely these photos will become unforgettable memories of youth.”

Many young people also hire professional photographers to capture their best moments, with the cost for a photo session ranging from 500,000 VND to 1 million VND, depending on the service package and duration of the photo shoot.

During the summer vacation, many families also took the opportunity to go out and take souvenir photos. Children were prepared by their parents with conical hats shaped like the national flag, red flag with yellow star to create memorable photos.

“We finished work early in the afternoon and had free time, so we made an appointment to take the kids for a walk, to have fun and take souvenir photos. After taking photos at Hang Ma, we will go to Hoan Kiem Lake to walk around, walk and enjoy food around the Old Quarter,” said Ms. Van.

Many shops on Hang Ma Street sell a variety of products celebrating National Day, September 2nd. The slogans “Independence - Freedom - Happiness” create a solemn festive atmosphere, while emphasizing the meaning of National Day for each citizen.

Not only is Hang Ma street brightly decorated, on Au Trieu street, rows of red flags with yellow stars are hung neatly in front of every house and shop, creating a vibrant picture.
Ms. Le Thu Minh (Hoan Kiem) shared: “Looking at the streets filled with flags, I feel moved. It is not only a decoration but also a reminder of the heroic history of the nation.”

Cyrielle Richamp (right), a tourist from France, shared that during her journey to Vietnam from Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne, she chose Hanoi as her final stop to have the opportunity to witness the parade on the occasion of National Day, September 2.
On her first day in the capital, Cyrielle Richamp said she was overwhelmed by the bright red color of flags and flowers all over the streets. “I was very impressed when I walked around the streets in the festive atmosphere, saw the bright red flags and felt the strong love for the homeland of the Vietnamese people,” Cyrielle Richamp said.

Outside the old quarter, visitors can visit Doc Lap Street and the area in front of Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, a place where many people in traditional Vietnamese dress, holding national flags, stand and take souvenir photos.

For tourists, it is an unforgettable experience; for locals, it is a pride to live in a city with a thousand years of culture.
