Since the beginning of this year, the GWM Tank 500 has been present in Vietnam but is only in the form of market research, not officially on sale. However, this car line has a facelift version in China, positioned as "a smart luxury off-road SUV, suitable for all situations". The exterior of the new Tank 500 compared to the version that has been imported to Vietnam has only minor differences in the grille and wheel design. Customers can choose the new Dunhuang Green exterior paint color in addition to the existing Kunlun Gold, Pamir Silver and Mount Everest White colors. The body dimensions are 5078/1934/1905mm, respectively, and the wheelbase is 2850mm.
Notably, the new Tank 500 features a new LIDAR sensor cluster on the roof to serve GWM's third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra driver assistance system. It is equipped with 27 sensors, including 1 lidar, 3 millimeter wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars and 11 high-definition cameras, enabling automatic point-to-point navigation in urban environments and highways without high-definition maps. GWM claims the parking assist feature supports more than 200 types of parking spaces, including longitudinal parking, diagonal parking and dead-end parking. The Coffee Night Vision far-infrared system can detect vehicles up to 120 metres away and pedestrians up to 90 metres away, even in rainy, snowy and dusty environments. In terms of interior, the biggest change is the addition of an electronic gear lever on the steering wheel, a 50W refrigerator with a temperature range of -6°C to 50°C and two 50W wireless charging pads. In addition, the cockpit still retains the 12.3-inch LCD dashboard, 14.6-inch central control screen, under-screen clock and HUD, running GWM's Coffee OS 3 operating system, integrated with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip.
Second-row passengers can view entertainment content from a 17.3-inch ceiling-mounted 3K entertainment screen, which supports six control modes including voice, gesture, touch, mobile phone, remote control and rear armrest display. In addition, the Nappa leather seats are also equipped with ventilation and heating functions for all front and rear seats. The rear seat backrests can be adjusted from 25° to 35° and can also be folded down to increase the luggage compartment volume to 1489L. The Hi4-T PHEV version uses a 2.0T engine and an electric motor, combined with a 9-speed 9HAT automatic transmission, for a total output of 300kW (402 horsepower) and a maximum torque of 750Nm. The 2.0T engine produces 180kW and 380Nm. The electric motor produces 130kW and 495Nm.
The 37.1kWh three-cell lithium battery provides an all-electric range of up to 110km. Acceleration from 0 to 100m/h is 6.9 seconds, the combined fuel consumption according to the WLTC is 2.06 l/100km and the total range according to the WLTC is 900km. The Hi4-Z version is equipped with the same 2.0T engine and two electric motors, combined with a 3-speed DHT gearbox, creating a total output of 635kW (852 horsepower) and a maximum torque of 1,195Nm. The front and rear motors produce 215kW/400Nm and 240kW/415Nm respectively. The 59.05kWh three-cell lithium battery pack provides a WLTC-rated all-electric range of 201km. Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h is 4.3 seconds, the total fuel consumption according to the WLTC standard is 0.76 liters/100km and the total range according to the WLTC standard is 1,096km.
