“GOm Show - Sounds from Ceramics” where the sounds of Vietnamese ceramics are awakened and resonate in the flow of contemporary art, will be performed on June 28-29 at the Hanoi Opera House.
Inspired by ceramic culture – a heritage that is both tangible and deeply rooted in the consciousness – the creative musical art project “GOm Show” is a sound journey using symbolic techniques, where the ceramic turntable becomes the narrator, and each ceramic instrument such as jars, pots, gongs, bells… becomes a character telling the story of the land and people, in a wordless language.
The show invites the audience to enter a world rich in feelings - where each layer of sound awakens the imagination, evokes cultural memories, and leads the listener through diverse sound spaces but unified with a Vietnamese soul.

From “Return,” “That Time,” “Downstream” to “Find Hani,” “Gom” … each chapter is a unique voice from indigenous ethnic communities such as M'nong, Tay, Lo Lo, Nung Din, E De, Ha Nhi…
“GOm Show” is the idea of the Dan Do artist group, using special musical instruments that the group of authors researched and created themselves, such as: Chum Drum (using ceramic jars and inner tubes to create super low sounds like a giant bass); Lang Drum (shaped like a rice cake, warm bass sounds like echoes from the ground); Ceramic Gongs and Ceramic Bells (creating sounds from baked clay with unique timbre structures, each one is a separate sound entity); Rotating Pottery (resonating by rotating the mouth of the pottery, creating a soft reverberating effect); Dan Nieu (gentle sounds reverberating from a clay pot)...
According to artist Dinh Anh Tuan, Dan Do was established more than 12 years ago, with a consistent creative journey based on indigenous materials. With the philosophy of “taking culture as the root, taking people as the energy,” all of the group’s projects originate from Vietnamese materials and spirit, creating works of art that are both indigenous and contemporary.
“GOm Show not only marks a new milestone in the artistic journey of the Dan Do group, but also opens a special step forward in the flow of contemporary Vietnamese art. The project is a continuation and transfer between two generations of artists – the experienced founders and the young generation of potential artists,” said Mr. Dinh Anh Tuan.
This is also the next step in the development of creative music based on indigenous cultural materials, with a new system of musical instruments crafted from ceramics and terracotta, bringing completely new sounds. "GOm Show" both preserves the depth of tradition and innovates the approach - so that culture is not only preserved but also continues to live, resonate and spread./.
