Entering the finals with a three-stroke lead, golfer Jeneath Wong lit up Hoiana Shores Golf Club with a 68 (-3). This was her fourth time shooting under 70 on the links course.

The championship competition between Jeneath Wong and two Korean representatives - Soomin Oh and Sumin Hong lasted until the last holes in which the small Malaysian talent won convincingly.

Wong and Oh (ranked 9th in the world amateur golf rankings) were both in the lead at the end of the 16th hole. But immediately after, Wong, a third-year student at Pepperdine University (California), proved his superiority.

At the par-3 17th hole, while Oh and Hong both had birdie chances from long putts, Wong hit a 7-iron that unexpectedly hit the ball close to the target. Thanks to that, Wong easily finished the birdie, thereby taking the lead with a one-stroke advantage.

On the final hole, a par-5, Oh hit the green in two shots to have an eagle chance from a position more than 10 meters from the hole while Wong was 40 yards from the green with his second shot. But from there, Wong hit the ball about 1.2 meters from the target.

After seeing Oh's eagle hopes drift past the hole, Wong calmly finished accurately to seal the win and cap off a stellar performance.

With a 266 (-18) over four rounds - 65, 69, 64 and 68 at Hoiana Shores, Wong set a record for the best winning result in WAAP Championship history, surpassing the 270 shot by Chun-wei Wu (Taiwan) in Thailand last year. In the four days of competition in Vietnam this time, Jeneath Wong recorded 24 birdies, just four bogeys and one double-bogey.

Jeneath Wong, ranked 123rd in the latest WAGR, also became the first to win the region's most prestigious women's amateur title as a teenager. Chun-wei Wu was previously the oldest WAAP Championship winner, at 19 years, 2 months and 5 days.

"It's unbelievable. I'm so happy," Wong said. Her reward for winning the seventh edition, as usual, is the Rae-Vadee T. Suwan Medal and the privilege of competing in three prestigious professional women's majors in 2025: the AIG Women's Open at Royal Porthcawl (Wales), The Chevron Championship in Texas and the Amundi Evian Championship in France.

Vietnam's Le Chuc An finished the final round with a 70, continuing to consolidate her position as the number one female amateur golfer in Vietnam. With a total of 284 strokes, Chuc An finished T30, surpassing the previous best result of a Vietnamese golfer at the WAAP Championship - 51st place by Doan Xuan Khue Minh in 2023.
