At the seminar "Developing students' legal practice skills to meet job market requirements" recently organized by Hanoi Law University, Dr. Tran Kim Lieu, Director of the Center for Legal Practice, said that the rate of students having jobs after 12 months of graduation is quite high, although the rate of working in the right profession is not as expected.
The school is concerned about students’ ability to adapt to the working environment, but there is currently no survey on their ability to maintain their careers after entering the job market. “Getting a job after graduation is good, but being able to survive in the working environment is a much more difficult problem,” said Ms. Lieu.

According to Ms. Lieu, the school cannot be satisfied with the students' practical skills, because some students have difficulty finding jobs.
In addition, the current job market context has changed rapidly; fierce competition from digital transformation with AI, Chat GPT… requires students to improve their qualifications and professional skills. “In the context of streamlining the payroll in the state sector today, it is very difficult to compete and get a job,” said Ms. Lieu.
Therefore, the school desires and seeks ways for students to increasingly have better professional skills.
Lawyer Nguyen Trong Nghia, Director of the ICA Legal Training Academy, said that most legal businesses need diversity and versatility from candidates rather than specialized skills.

Mr. Nghia believes that students need to change their mindset about when to start working. "Usually, they think they will start working in their fourth or third year. But I think they need to start earlier. Start with the smallest jobs in businesses to have a foundation and know what they need... These things can be done from the first or second year. Not to mention, you can also apply the knowledge you gain from work to the knowledge you learned in class, from which your experience and skills will be greatly improved," said Mr. Nghia.
Judge Vu Quang Dung (People's Court of Gia Lam District, Hanoi) said that the rate of practical training is very important and needs to be increased. The school can invite those who have been and are performing tasks and have practical experience to teach alongside regular lecturers, so that students can both learn theory and receive practical experience.

According to Ms. Lieu, in order to develop students' practical skills, Hanoi Law University is revising its training program, increasing the number of credits for practical skills and increasing internship and experience activities.
Along with that, the school organizes many activities for students, such as mock trials in the model courtroom in the form of a trial, promoting and diversifying practical activities, experiences, trial rehearsals, etc. or aiming to organize students to participate in free legal advice for corporations, industrial parks, etc.
The school also invites experienced experts from agencies that promulgate, implement, and protect laws as well as experts from organizations and businesses in the legal field to share knowledge and legal skills with students.
