Closing the series of activities throughout the Vu Lan season, a special art exchange program called "Filial piety and the sacred soul of the Fatherland" took place on the evening of August 25, at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace - Hanoi .

The exchange night is part of the program "Vu Lan - Filial Piety and Nation" organized annually by the Central Information and Communications Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

The activity arouses and promotes the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source," showing gratitude and repaying gratitude to predecessors and heroic martyrs; praising the spirit of protecting the sacred and inviolable sovereignty of the nation in the present and forever in the future; contributing to spreading the noble humanistic-humanistic-karma values of filial piety in society.

In his opening speech, Most Venerable Thich Gia Quang, Vice President of the Executive Council and Head of the Central Information and Communications Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, stated that in the compassionate light of Buddhism, filial piety is not only about taking care of parents, but also about being loyal to the country and people. Vu Lan is not only a season of filial piety to the family, but also a season of gratitude to those who have sacrificed their lives for the eternal existence of the Fatherland.

How many children have put aside their youth, left behind their beloved homes… to keep the country intact. They are also filial children but have chosen a greater love, the love for the beautiful country, for every inch of land, every breath of their homeland.

The program "Vu Lan - Filial Piety and Nation" has changed from an annual activity to a journey to spread the ethics of the origin. Nowadays, Vu Lan does not stop at rituals, but has been deeply engraved in people's consciousness and feelings, becoming the reason for living, the rhythm of breathing, the source of thousands of Vietnamese hearts, connecting millions of hearts, spreading the fragrance of filial piety to all directions, Venerable Thich Gia Quang affirmed.

Vietnamese Buddhism has always accompanied the nation in all social circumstances. During the nation's long resistance wars, hundreds of Buddhist monks and martyrs incarnated in the Dharma in the midst of life in the context of the country being invaded, the aspiration for independence and freedom for the Fatherland was above all and higher than all.

In that situation, practicing Bodhisattva path, entering the world and committing oneself, many monks affirmed the truth of the times: "Only when the country is peaceful and independent will monks have an environment to practice and carry out the teachings."

Therefore, temporarily putting aside the monk's robe and donning the armor, immersing oneself in the nation's long march in the resistance wars and nation-building is also a way to practice the doctrine of the four graces in serving the nation and people in the specific circumstances of the country's history.

The exchange night had the presence and emotional sharing of venerable monks and nuns about "The imprint of Vietnamese Buddhist monks in the cause of national resistance" through the ages, along with profound and emotional art performances, honoring filial piety and the desire for peace performed by many famous artists.

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee presented gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, wounded soldiers and martyrs' relatives.

The Vu Lan - Filial Piety and Nation Program 2025 emphasizes the five core elements of filial piety in modern life: Filial piety - Spiritual origin; Filial respect - Complete affection; Filial courtesy - Cultural lifestyle; Filial loyalty - Sincerity to the nation; Filial trust - Keeping the faith. In Buddhism, the word filial piety not only represents the duty of children to their parents, but also extends to filial piety to the Dharma, filial piety to the community-nation-ethnicity, filial piety to life: "A filial heart is a Buddha's heart, filial conduct is a Buddha's conduct."

The program is a respectful offering of incense from today's and future generations to the souls of the deceased and our ancestors who have contributed to building and protecting the country.

Previously, many activities in the program were organized, such as: Journey of gratitude - Burning incense at Truong Son Martyrs' Cemetery, Quang Tri, the land that used to be the dividing line between the North and the South (July 2025); Journey of nurturing and donating books and school supplies to children in the Northwest highlands (August 2025); organizing an online writing and drawing contest "Lighting up filial piety - Brightening the national soul" - awakening love for the homeland in the hearts of young people.
