Touching, hearing, seeing and feeling directly become the powerful way of art education that museums are operating.

In Da Nang, museums with lively exhibition spaces and many experiential activities make the museum space an "open classroom" for many ages.

“Open classroom”

The continuous exhibition and experience activities organized by Da Nang Fine Arts Museum in recent years have made this address one of the must-visit places in Da Nang.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Trinh, Deputy Director in charge of the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum, said that in addition to contributing to encouraging and motivating the creative spirit and passion for art of artists, promoting the development of the fine arts movement in Da Nang and the region with exhibitions such as "Young Fine Arts - Da Nang 2023", "The Bridge", "Nang", "Vietnamese Folk Paintings", the museum pays attention to potential customers who are students.

That is why the museum organizes appropriate experiential activities according to each exhibition theme.

Specifically, in the exhibition "Vietnamese Folk Paintings", the museum organizes experiences for visitors and children to print Dong Ho folk paintings.

Or recently, in the thematic exhibition "Graphic works of Da Nang Fine Arts Museum", the museum also organized a parallel experience program "Color Festival" with special art activities such as portrait sketching, calligraphy inviting young painters and calligraphers of Da Nang to perform.

In addition, activities of drawing with gouache, oil pastel, engraving and printing graphic pictures guided by staff of Da Nang Fine Arts Museum have attracted young people, children and parents to participate and create many creative art products.

Not only standing and admiring the paintings, the children were able to try mixing colors, holding brushes, and creating their own unique paintings. Accordingly, each experience session attracted more than 100 interactive participants.

Most recently, at the Da Nang Museum, the "Summer Fair" program attracted nearly 300 children to register to experience the activities.

This is also the highlight program in the series of activities "Listen to the cicadas - enjoy the summer at the museum" taking place throughout the summer at the Da Nang Museum, organized with the purpose of creating a useful and meaningful playground, contributing to educating and motivating children before entering the new school year.

At the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture, children can see with their own eyes statues of Shiva, Apsara or reliefs from the 7th century and not only learn about lines and patterns, but also get to know the art that has existed for thousands of years.

Museum education experts say interactive experiences are the “key” to transforming museums from quiet exhibits to living spaces. Children are more likely to remember things when they do them, rather than just listen or read.

Mr. Tran Duc, Deputy Director in charge of Quang Nam Museum, said that Quang Nam Museum continuously organizes activities to experience and learn about traditional craft villages of Quang Nam, regional culinary identity...

Experiential activities not only create excitement, stimulate curiosity, but also train children's observation and memory skills, in addition to arousing their interest in visiting the museum space.

Ms. Adila Laidi Hanieh, Director of the Palestinian Museum, was awarded the National Order of Merit - Knighthood by France in recognition of her efforts in promoting and preserving Palestinian culture, strengthening democracy in difficult conditions and promoting cooperation with French museums.

She has developed the museum into an academic center, doubling the number of artifacts, and especially led the digital engagement program during the pandemic - opening an educational website related to digital heritage for children.

This is also a typical example for museums around the world to recognize and reposition their role and influence.

At the seminar "Innovation and improvement of the quality of thematic exhibitions at art museums in Vietnam" held in early August in Da Nang city, experts recognized that Da Nang owns many museums with diverse content, from art, history, to thematic.

And Da Nang has the potential to build a network of “open museums” for art education.

Ms. Ngo Thi Bich Van, Deputy Director of Da Nang Museum, said that combining museums with schools, organizing regular art workshops, or designing museum tours specifically for primary and secondary school students will help enhance the role of museums in education.

Many museums around the world have demonstrated the effectiveness of interactive activities in museums with audiences, especially children and students, when they become "discoverers" rather than "passive audiences"...
