Comments and forecasts
In recent weeks, Vietnamese pepper prices have fallen by about 4%. This price level was once considered an important support level as many times before, every time it reached this level, the market bounced back.
Positive signals are coming from reciprocal tariff negotiations between Vietnam and the US. This development is expected to create psychological leverage for the pepper market, in the context of prices being under pressure from many sides.
On the afternoon of June 5 (US time), Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy had an important meeting with Senator John Boozman and Congressman Glenn GT Thompson. Here, Vietnam expressed its desire to promote cooperation, not competition but mutual support for development. In addition to importing plant varieties and modern technological equipment from the US, Vietnam hopes to continue to strongly export key agricultural products such as coffee, pepper, cashew, shrimp and wooden products.
According to data from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first 5 months of 2025, Vietnam exported more than 100,000 tons of pepper, earning nearly 693 million USD. Although the export volume decreased by 12% compared to the same period last year, the value increased sharply by 40.5%, thanks to high export prices.
The US remains the largest market for Vietnamese pepper, accounting for nearly 23% of total exports. However, exports to the US in the same period fell sharply by 24.4% to just over 23,000 tons. In May alone, pepper exports to the US reached 6,342 tons, down slightly by 1% compared to the previous month.
In the context of pepper prices approaching the support zone and the market showing signs of slowing down, hope for recovery is gradually forming, especially when the Vietnam - US trade relationship is showing positive trends.
