According to the Organizing Committee, imbued with the moral principles of “When drinking water, remember its source”, “When eating fruit, remember the person who planted the tree”, towards the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnamese education sector, for the first time, the Ministry of Education and Training organized a meeting with representatives of teachers who were mobilized to do educational work in the South during the resistance war against the US to save the country to affirm respect and gratitude for the generation of teachers who sacrificed their youth for the cause of national liberation.

More than 3,000 teachers left the podium, put aside their personal affairs, and went to the southern battlefield, becoming "Warriors on the cultural and educational front". They not only taught but also built classrooms, fought against the enemy, and even heroically sacrificed themselves, leaving behind immortal heroic epics in the history of education.

Hugs are tight.

Within just 4 months after April 30, 1975, thanks to the timely support of the education sector and the great contributions of the "Teachers going to B", all schools in the southern provinces were quickly re-established and opened normally - a resounding success, bearing the mark of the education sector.

The gratitude meeting had 80 teachers - living witnesses of a time of war, representing more than 3,000 teachers mobilized to work in education in the southern provinces during the resistance war against America to save the country.

Although some of them are no longer alive, some of them did not attend this meeting of gratitude due to old age or poor health, the event is an expression of gratitude and respect from the entire education sector in particular and young teachers today to the generation of teachers who contributed their efforts to build, create, and overcome the consequences of the resistance war against America to save the country.

Speaking at the meeting, Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said that during the resistance war against the US to save the country, to gain independence, freedom and unify the country; when the people of the South asked for support from the people of the North, besides the troops going to the South to fight, there was a special force - teachers who went to B, who were also "soldiers on the cultural-educational front".

In the early 1960s, the need for education staff and teachers in the liberated areas of the South became urgent; in response to the call of the Party, the State and the people of the South, thousands of staff, teachers and students who had just graduated from teacher training colleges in the North volunteered, ready to leave their families, say goodbye to their familiar podiums, and accept the task of going to the southern battlefield.

According to archives, from 1961 to December 1974, there were many waves of education officials and teachers with a total of more than 3,000 volunteer teachers mobilized to the southern battlefield (coded as going to B).

For teachers who went on duty in the South, they were not only teachers, but also soldiers. Many teachers were brave soldiers in the fight against the enemy, a typical example is teacher Le Thi Bach Cat, from Nghe An, former teacher of Tu Son Sports School, Bac Ninh. She went to B at the end of 1964, received a mission at the Saigon-Gia Dinh Youth Union, both as a teacher and as a union worker. During the Mau Than campaign (1968), she joined the armed commando force in the inner city of Saigon. In a battle, surrounded by the enemy, she decided to stay and fight so that her comrades could retreat safely and heroically sacrificed herself.

Many teachers who went to B fought and heroically sacrificed their lives, remaining forever on the battlefield. They sacrificed their lives while teaching, sacrificed their lives on the way to work, sacrificed their lives while fighting the enemy on a sweep. They are the honorable and proud martyrs of the education sector.

In war, bombs and bullets like that, if not sacrificed, many people are injured, leaving behind after-effects on their bodies. Some people carry injuries for life, they are war invalids on the education front.

On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training, Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong expressed deep gratitude to more than 3,000 teachers who went to B, many of whom sacrificed their lives and many of whom have returned to their ancestors.

"Over the past 80 years, the Vietnamese education sector has gone through many hardships and glories. During that journey, the B-class teachers are shining symbols of intelligence, courage and love for the Fatherland. The Ministry of Education and Training hopes that every teacher today will be a B-class teacher of peacetime, ready to go to the most difficult places, take on the most arduous tasks for students and for the country," Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong shared.
