At the meeting, Comrade Pham Van Thep, member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee of the City Party Committee, read a speech reviewing the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day. He emphasized that Vietnam's revolutionary press has continuously grown, accompanied the country's changes, remained loyal to the revolutionary ideal, closely connected with the people, and maintained its noble mission in all historical periods. Hai Phong is one of the cradles of the workers' movement and the revolutionary movement, so the revolutionary press has been present and accompanied from a very early age.
Promoting the glorious tradition of Vietnam's revolutionary press, the city's press work in recent times has grown strongly, making constant efforts to achieve comprehensive results. In the first 5 months of 2025, there were 10,884 news and articles (including 10,623 positive news and articles, 261 negative news and articles) about Hai Phong published in 70 newspapers and magazines. The number of news and articles shows that the coordination in the direction, orientation and provision of information by competent agencies and units according to the city's regulations is increasingly systematic and effective. The press agencies are very interested in accompanying the city in all events of political and social life. The exchange of information between agencies and units with the press has improved and is smooth, the information has been captured and handled promptly, not causing hot spots in public opinion.
Speaking at the program, on behalf of the City Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Comrade Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Tien Chau respectfully acknowledged, commended and sent best wishes to all veteran journalists, press agencies, reporters, editors, and collaborators working in the city. Wishing the journalists good health, maintaining their bravery, bright minds, sharp pens, continuing to produce many quality journalistic works, contributing to beautifying the glorious 100-year tradition of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press and building Hai Phong city to be increasingly civilized, modern, and breakthrough in development.
The Secretary of the City Party Committee stated that the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day this year takes place in the context that the Party Committee, government, armed forces and people of Hai Phong city are focusing on emulating to successfully implement the goals and tasks of socio-economic development in 2025 - a pivotal year in implementing the 5-year Plan 2021 - 2025. The entire political system is urgently and seriously implementing the arrangement of 2-level administrative units, merging Hai Duong province and Hai Phong city according to the policy of the Central Government. This is also the time when the entire City Party Committee is focusing on preparing for the organization of Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 17th Hai Phong City Party Congress and the 14th National Party Congress.
These major political events are of particular importance to the city's development orientation in the coming time. In particular, the merger of Hai Duong province and Hai Phong city into a centrally-governed city in the context of the country preparing to enter a new era of development, creating opportunities to maximize the potential and advantages of the third largest urban area in the country after Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, is a great opportunity and fortune for Hai Phong city.
In order for Hai Phong in the future to truly become a major seaport city, leading the country in the cause of industrialization and modernization, being the driving force for the development of the Northern region and the whole country, successfully building a model of socialism associated with socialist people... requires the determination and efforts of the entire political system, all classes of people, promoting the spirit of solidarity, self-reliance, self-improvement, and the desire to rise up. To achieve that success, the city really needs the joint efforts of press agencies and the team of journalists today.
Accompanying the city's development in the context of globalization, international integration and strong digital transformation, Vietnamese press in general, Hai Phong in particular, is facing many intertwined challenges and opportunities, from the traditional print press model to digital press; from one-way news delivery to multi-dimensional interaction; from information monopoly to strong competition not only with social networks but also with artificial intelligence; hostile forces are stepping up counter-propaganda, distortion, and denial of the achievements of the renovation process; the Fourth Industrial Revolution with rapid and outstanding developments in journalism technology. In the general context, the team of journalists has many advantages but is also facing challenges: political challenges, ethical challenges, and opportunity challenges. Accordingly, the team of journalists and the system of press agencies need to have stronger development steps, meeting the requirements of the new period, continuing to accompany the cause of building and developing the city.
However, with the remarkable development and growth of Hai Phong press in recent times, the Secretary of the City Party Committee hopes and believes that the team of journalists in the city will continue to maintain political steadfastness, promote professional ethics, and innovate professionally to meet the requirements and tasks in the new context.
In the coming time, the Secretary of the City Party Committee requested that the press agencies and journalists of the city closely follow the political tasks of the city, promptly propagate the Party's policies, the State's laws and policies and the development orientation of Hai Phong. In the immediate future, focus on propagating the work of streamlining the organizational apparatus, arranging the 2-level administrative units, merging Hai Duong province and Hai Phong city; the work of preparing and organizing Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 17th Hai Phong City Party Congress and the 14th National Party Congress; the building of a socialist model and socialist people in Hai Phong. Continue to improve the quality of information, ensuring orientation, combativeness, constructiveness and humanity. The city's press needs to discover and promote creative models, advanced examples, and good practices in economic development, new rural construction, civilized urban areas, startups, innovation, education and health development, etc.
At the same time, promote digital transformation in journalism activities, develop multimedia communication platforms, effectively utilize digital technology to spread official information, and increase interaction with readers, especially the younger generation. Boldly reflect on difficulties and shortcomings from the grassroots, contributing to practical and effective policy criticism. Strengthen the fight against erroneous and hostile viewpoints, and protect the Party's ideological foundation. Pay more attention to training, fostering, planning and using the team of cadres, reporters and editors; build a team of journalists with strong political will, pure heart, broad vision, good professional skills, and understanding of technology. Each journalist is not only a news reporter, but also an inspiration, a leader of ideology, contributing to nurturing trust, aspiration for dedication and a spirit of innovation and creativity in the whole society.
The Secretary of the City Party Committee also requested that the agencies and units that direct, orient, and manage the city's press need to make more efforts, constantly develop, innovate, and improve operational efficiency. Hai Phong City is committed to continuing to create favorable conditions for the press to develop in the right direction, professionally, and effectively.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the City People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 18 collectives and 26 individuals with outstanding achievements in the city's press work./.
