Nearly 250 players compete in the 2025 National Excellent Chess Championship

On the morning of August 23, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports and the Vietnam Chess Federation opened the 2025 National Excellent Chess Championship, competing for the COOLMATE Cup.

The 2025 National Excellent Chess Championship and the National Excellent Youth Go Championship for the Coolmate Cup were held at the First Hotel (HCMC), gathering nearly 250 players. The tournament took place from August 23 and is expected to end on September 1.

According to the organizers, the special feature of the tournament is that participating athletes must have achieved results in previous national tournaments. This detail enhances the professionalism of the tournament.

This year, the 2025 National Excellent Chess Championship for the Coolmate Cup will compete for 14 individual medal sets, including 4 chess competitions: Standard chess, rapid chess, blitz chess, and super blitz chess.

There are also 3 sets of medals in the ASEAN flag and Maruk flag for men's and women's categories.

This is the tournament with the highest level of expertise in the national competition system, gathering nearly 250 excellent athletes from 25 units.

In particular, the tournament witnessed the participation of leading Vietnamese grandmasters such as: Le Tuan Minh, Tran Tuan Minh, Dao Thien Hai, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Pham Le Thao Nguyen...

The young generation of talents is growing strongly such as Bang Gia Huy, Nguyen Quoc Hy, Pham Tran Gia Phuc, Dinh Nho Kiet, Tran Ngoc Minh Duy,... All promise to bring an attractive, dramatic and competitive tournament.

Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, spoke at the opening ceremony.

The winning players will receive cash prizes and specially designed competition outfits from sponsor Coolmate, with a total value of more than 300 million VND.

Notably, this fashion brand is the exclusive apparel sponsor for the Vietnam Chess Federation from June 2025.
