Foden shines, Man City defeats team from Africa
Man City got off to a flying start in the FIFA Club World Cup, beating Wydad AC 2-0 at the Lincoln Financial Stadium in Philadelphia (USA). Phil Foden shone with a goal and an assist, contributing to the defending champions' easy victory.
Despite the Premier League season having just ended, manager Pep Guardiola boldly handed debuts to new signings Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki. Phil Foden also quickly made his mark when he opened the scoring after just two minutes. The Englishman took advantage of a rebound from El Mehdi Benabid's block to score his first goal for City since January.

Wydad AC responded positively to the early goal and almost levelled the scores. Thembinkosi Lorch took advantage of a Vitor Reis error to break free, but a slip forced him to pass the ball to Cassius Mailula, who could not overcome the tenacity of goalkeeper Ederson.
Unfortunately for the Moroccans, their progress was cut short when Jeremy Doku slotted home Foden's deep pass to double City's lead in the closing stages of the first half, ending Doku's five-year drought for the Manchester club.

Doku continued to have chances in the second half but could not beat Benabid. He and several other players were then taken off the pitch, making way for Oscar Bobb, Rodri and Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker also had a powerful finish that went over the bar as Man City continued to search for a third goal.
However, Man City's victory was affected by a direct red card for Rico Lewis in the final minutes of the match, after a collision with Samuel Obeng that was considered dangerous. Despite having to play with one less man, the Premier League team still maintained the score and maintained a 100% clean sheet record in the history of participating in the FIFA Club World Cup (winning 3 matches).
