Filip Nguyen joins Hanoi Police Club

Hanoi Police Club announced the recruitment of Filip Nguyen. The goalkeeper born in 1992 was registered to compete in phase 2 of V-League 2023 with a slot for foreign players of Vietnamese origin.

Filip Nguyen joined the Hanoi Police Club after ending his contract with the Czech Republic club Slovacko ahead of schedule. The Vietnamese-American goalkeeper signed a three-year contract with the police team. The Hanoi Police Club said the team will hire a Vietnamese teacher for Filip Nguyen.

It is expected that the Hanoi Police Club will pay Filip Nguyen a salary and "kickback" many times higher than what he received in the Czech Republic. Filip Nguyen himself admitted to the European media that what he received when he returned to Vietnam far exceeded his salary in Europe.

Filip Nguyen will play for Hanoi Police Club from the second phase of V-League 2023.

Before the 2023 season, Hanoi Police Club also tried to sign a contract with Filip Nguyen. The homepage of Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) also listed Filip Nguyen's name. However, the deal was not completed. At that time, Filip Nguyen had problems terminating his contract with Slovacko Club.

Hanoi Police Club will have 4 goalkeepers. Along with Filip Nguyen are Patrik Le Giang, Bui Tien Dung and Do Sy Huy. Most likely, the one leaving will be Patrik Le Giang because this player does not have Vietnamese nationality. VPF only allows one overseas Vietnamese player to be registered with each team.

Filip Nguyen's father is Vietnamese and his mother is Czech. He grew up in the Sparta Prague club training center. Filip Nguyen became famous in the Slovan Liberec club and won the title of best goalkeeper in the national championship in the 2018/19 season.

Filip Nguyen has been called up to the Czech Republic national team but has not played a single match. Therefore, he is still eligible to play for the Vietnamese national team in the future.
