F-16s won't be appearing in Ukraine anytime soon

Việt NamViệt Nam20/06/2024

In the latest statement, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev assessed that Ukraine was wrong to reject Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal for negotiations.

“They reject everything. This was said at the conference in Switzerland. And it means that all proposals will be rejected immediately. The negotiation process will return to the starting point. It is useless. Everything will become worse,” Dmitry Medvedev said.

He stressed that the Kiev government could still accept the Russian President's proposal and try to achieve peace. If Ukraine rejects Moscow's proposal, the military operations of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will continue.

“And it is still difficult to say where the borders of the security belt that our President spoke about will end. It is likely that all this will not be beneficial to the current Ukrainian authorities,” the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council stressed.

Russian President's proposal to withdraw Ukrainian troops from new Russian regions

Russian President Vladimir Putin called Ukraine's neutrality and nuclear-free status a prerequisite for peace talks with Kiev. In addition, Ukraine must abandon its intention to join NATO and withdraw its troops from four regions annexed by Russia.

The Russian president stressed that if Kiev and the West reject the new peace proposal, the conditions will be different. Vladimir Putin said that the essence of Russia's peace proposal is not freezing, but completely ending the conflict. The Russian leader explained that Moscow is ready to start the negotiation process "even tomorrow" if Kiev agrees to the conditions.

Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada is discussing a peace initiative

According to the Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, deputies of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada are discussing peaceful initiatives to resolve the conflict. “According to our information through the parliamentary channel, some deputies of the Verkhovna Rada have already started to work on this,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.

The Russian MP noted that the more Ukrainian politicians hope for help from the United States and the European Union, the more citizens they will lose.

According to Ukrainian political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko, while the Kiev government refuses to negotiate with Moscow, Russia is increasingly controlling many Ukrainian territories.

“Russia is now doing everything it can to make a clear move, take control of new areas and then come up with a new version of peace on its terms. They are not negotiating, they are not agreeing to the terms, which means they are taking another step and Ukraine will continue to lose,” said Konstantin Bondarenko, pointing out that such a strategy is very effective.

UK advises Ukraine to listen to Russian President's proposal

Ralf Schellhammer, a columnist for the British news site UnHerd, believes that Kiev should agree to a ceasefire. If it agrees to Moscow's initiative. According to him, Ukraine will have a chance to prosper and the Russian proposal seems more positive than further escalating the conflict and threatening nuclear war.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mikhail Podolyak, advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine, said that Kiev has not yet accepted the peace proposal put forward by the Russian President. According to Ukraine, accepting Russia's conditions would force Kiev to give up its sovereignty and maintain a non-aligned status. This would leave Ukraine defenseless.

F-16 not appearing in Ukraine soon

Military expert, retired Russian Army Colonel Viktor Litovkin said in a conversation with Lenta.ru that the US F-16 fighter jets are unlikely to appear in Ukraine anytime soon. The expert explained that to do this, Ukraine needs to prepare airfields, which will inevitably become targets for the Russian military. At the same time, the issue of personnel training is not easy.

“Airfields with control towers and radar stations must be created. They also need engineering and operational stations for pre- and post-departure maintenance of aircraft. Specialists who know military technical English should work there because all instructions, drawings, notes on spare parts are written in English,” explains expert Viktor Litovkin.

According to him, about 40-50 such experts are needed. Like pilots, they need to be highly trained.

“Many airfields have been destroyed, including perhaps those that were supposed to receive F-16s. If they stationed fighters on the territory of Poland or Romania, they would become targets for our missiles. Therefore, the conditions for supplying F-16s to Ukraine will not appear soon,” the Russian military expert said.

Earlier, Vice President of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Alexandra Ustinova, said that the US was deliberately delaying the training of Ukrainian pilots to fly US F-16 fighter jets.

Ukrainian veteran applies for Russian citizenship

Maxim Likhachev, a Ukrainian tanker of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who stole a T-64 to surrender, has applied for Russian citizenship.

TASS news agency, citing sources in Donetsk, reported that the regional civil administration will issue new passports for AFU veterans that will be ready in a few weeks.

Earlier it was reported that the former soldier Maxim Likhachev returned to his hometown of Svatovo. There he plans to find a job, live a peaceful life and farm with his mother.

Ukrainian soldier Maxim Likhachev stole a Ukrainian T-64 tank and surrendered to the Russian military in May 2024. He served in the 110th Mechanized Brigade of the AFU after training in Poland in 2022.
