On January 12, Dong Thap University met Can Tho University in the final match of the group stage, the Southwest qualifying round of the 3rd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2025 THACO Cup (TNSV THACO Cup 2025).
After 2 matches, Dong Thap University had 2 draws with the score of 0-0 against Cuu Long University and Nam Can Tho University. Therefore, the last match of the group stage is very important for this team, only winning can advance to the semi-finals.
Students of Dong Thap University traveled hundreds of kilometers to Can Tho Stadium to cheer for their team in the Southwest qualifying round of the TNSV THACO Cup 2025 football tournament.
The match against Can Tho University was not easy, because this was a team with good results in the previous 2 seasons and had the advantage of being close to Can Tho Stadium, with a large number of fans. Dong Thap University anticipated this and gave the players meaningful encouragement. Many leaders and lecturers of the school came to Can Tho Stadium to watch this match. Especially the presence of Associate Professor Dr. Ho Van Thong, Principal of Dong Thap University.

Cheer for the flag
In addition, Dong Thap University also actively mobilized students to support their home team. The school "played big" by providing 6 buses to transport nearly 200 students to Can Tho Stadium. Although the distance was quite long (nearly 100 km), the school's fans still brought many drums, vuvuzelas, flags, banners and wore uniforms to show their patriotism.
They did not seem tired at all despite the more than 2-hour drive. The Dong Thap University fan area was always bustling with drums, trumpets, and enthusiastic cheers. Although the number was not as large as the Can Tho University fan base, they created a balanced, exciting atmosphere in the stands.
Nguyen Thi Diem, a fan of Dong Thap University, shared: “This is the first time Dong Thap University has participated in the Youth Student Football Tournament, so it has received a lot of attention from fans. I often get carsick, but I am still determined to go along to cheer, because there is a player I like on the team.”

Not afraid of long distance to cheer
After 80 minutes of play, Dong Thap University tied 0-0 with Can Tho University, and both teams had to say goodbye to the tournament with regret. Dong Thap University fans stayed for a long time to comfort the players, many of them could not hold back their tears. Especially, when Can Tho University players came to thank them, all Dong Thap University fans stood up and gave the other team a round of sympathetic applause.
Although Dong Thap University Team has stopped, the efforts of the players and the beautiful images of the fans will continue to spread at the TNSV THACO cup 2025 football tournament.

The qualifying round of the 3rd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2025 THACO Cup has 66 teams divided into 6 groups competing according to geographical areas from December 28, 2024 to January 18, 2025. Specifically, including the northern region (from December 30, 2024 - January 10, 2025 at Thuy Loi University Stadium); the Central Coast region (from January 6 - January 12, 2025 at Military Zone 5 Stadium - Da Nang); the South Central and Central Highlands regions (January 10 - January 18, 2025 at Nha Trang University Stadium); the Southeast region (January 4 - January 12, 2025 at Bau Thanh Stadium, Ba Ria - Vung Tau); Southwestern region (January 8 - January 17, 2025 at Can Tho Stadium) and Ho Chi Minh City region (December 28, 2024 - January 15, 2025 at Ton Duc Thang University Stadium) to select 11 teams with the host team Ton Duc Thang University to compete in the final round of the tournament from March 1 - March 16, 2025.
