The greenhouse melon growing model of Mr. Ta Van Hiep, Nguyet Duc commune brings high economic efficiency.
Efficiency from crop structure shift
As a purely agricultural commune, the production value is low thanks to promoting the restructuring of the agricultural sector towards concentrated commodity production, improving productivity, quality and value of products, ensuring production towards clean agriculture and food safety, Nguyet Duc commune has issued a specialized Resolution on restructuring agricultural production, applying high technology according to the model of concentrated commodity production and increasing value in each stage.
Thanks to that, up to now, dozens of agricultural production models focusing on commodities, applying high technology to bring economic efficiency have been formed in the commune such as: Cucumber and melon growing area in Dong Cao village with a scale of 7.5 hectares; sweet corn growing area in Tien Dai village with a scale of over 10 hectares; rice growing area combined with aquaculture in Phuc Cam village with a scale of over 3.6 hectares. The above production models bring stable income to more than 1,500 households in the commune.
Also thanks to the application of science and high technology in production to promote growth, the average agricultural growth of the commune in the past 5 years has reached 2.98%/year. Up to now, the total cultivated land area of the whole commune is more than 903 hectares, with 72% of the cultivated land using quality crop varieties supported for production. The value obtained per hectare of cultivation is 150.5 million VND (an increase of 5.4 million VND compared to 2020). The aquaculture area is 128 hectares, the yield is 4.8 tons/ha, the output is 614.4 tons. Thanks to that, the average income of people increases from 50 million VND/person in 2020 to 85 million VND/person in 2025.

Pioneer in applying science and technology to production
Mr. Ta Van Hiep, Dong Cao village said: In 2017, my friend Nguyen Thai Phi and I returned to our hometown to rent land and invested more than 1 billion VND to build a modern greenhouse (covered with glass) to grow melons using high technology according to Israeli technology standards. Growing melons in greenhouses ensures that plants are always in the best growing conditions, limiting pests and diseases and providing clean, safe and quality agricultural products. With an initial production scale of 1,000m2 , up to now, Hiep and Phi have expanded to more than 4,000m2 (4 times higher than in 2017), and are currently continuing to invest in expansion with a seed cost of more than 300 million VND/ 1000m2 . The main products are Kim Vuong melons, Nhu Ngoc melons and cucumbers. The economic efficiency of the melon growing model in greenhouses is about 100 million/ 1000m2 /crop, an average of 3 crops/year. Total revenue is about more than 1.2 billion VND/year. Regarding the consumption market, clean fruit and vegetable stores order on the spot, the products are always sold out.
Or the high-tech fish farming model of Mr. Lan Nha's family. With an area of over 2 hectares, mainly swampy rice fields that were difficult to cultivate before, the family bought and invested in raising fruit trees and raising fish, bringing practical economic efficiency. With the motto of taking short-term to support long-term, combining the traditional farm model with high-tech livestock farming has helped Mr. Nha's family earn hundreds of millions of VND/year, creating jobs for dozens of local workers with salaries from 6-8 million VND/person/month. Or the asparagus growing model of Mr. Ha's family also promises to achieve high economic efficiency. The product has been registered to meet VietGAP standards, is a vegetable with high nutritional content, delicious, known as "Emperor's Vegetable" with a current market price of 120,000 VND/kg, the asparagus product of Mr. Ha's family promises to bring high economic efficiency in the near future...
With an innovative mindset and a keen sense of the market, Mr. Duong Van Trong, Dong Cao village, was the first person to bring the mugwort growing model to the commune. In 2020, Mr. Trong started growing mugwort on an area of 1 hectare, then invested in buying a pot to extract natural essential oils for sale. In 2021, with an area of 1 hectare of mugwort grown by Trong's family, after extracting essential oils, he earned more than 250 million VND. Realizing the economic potential of the mugwort growing model, from 2023, Mr. Trong invested in additional essential oil extraction equipment, at the same time, mobilized households in the commune to grow mugwort and purchased fresh mugwort. Currently, a number of businesses have come to discuss cooperation and product consumption contracts. Mr. Trong is currently consuming the output for 10 hectares of mugwort grown in some neighboring communes. In 2024, Mr. Trong established a cooperative to grow and produce essential oils from mugwort with 20 members participating, continuing to replicate the model, gradually forming concentrated production areas, helping to stabilize output and increase income for farmers.
Maintain and expand concentrated commodity production areas
Nguyen Le Huy, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nguyet Duc Commune, said: High-tech agricultural production models in Nguyet Duc are still in the early stages of formation but bring high economic efficiency compared to traditional agricultural production. The greater benefit is that through effective high-tech production models, it has positively impacted people's agricultural production thinking, which is concentrated production of goods, with green, clean and food-safe agricultural production methods in a modern direction.
As a purely agricultural commune, industry and small-scale industry are slow to develop, so the commune still considers agricultural production to play an important role in the economic structure, ensuring food security for the people. The commune has been and is continuing to direct the development of a model of agricultural production focusing on goods and applying high technology, towards a green, clean, food-safe and modern agriculture that brings high economic value in the coming years. At the same time, it focuses on developing and expanding cooperative economic models, encouraging the development of high-tech agriculture in cultivation, livestock, and aquaculture. The current difficulty of high-tech agricultural production models that are forming locally is the cost of accumulating, improving land, large seedlings, estimated at about 300 million VND/ 1000m2 . Therefore, people really need the attention and help of provincial authorities to support capital, seeds, and techniques to replicate safe agricultural models with high added value throughout the commune.
