On December 1, the leader of the People's Committee of Tra Don commune (Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province) said that he had just inspected the scene of a landslide caused by an earthquake that caused dozens of rocks to roll down to Tu Hon village (village 3, Tra Don commune).
Many large rocks fell from the mountain and rolled down to the village area.
Previously, in the afternoon and evening of November 30, Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province, had 6 consecutive earthquakes. Of which, the first 3 earthquakes occurred at 4:42 p.m. and 5:12 p.m. with magnitudes of 4, 3.8 and 3.4 on the Richter scale, respectively. The following 3 earthquakes were smaller.
However, many people in Nam Tra My district said they clearly felt 3-4 very strong tremors, especially the first two earthquakes. Many people said they were scared and ran out of their houses.
Notably, in Tu Hon village, the earthquake caused a landslide with many very large rocks on the top of Ngoc Mong mountain rolling down to the area on the top of the village about 30 to 50 meters from people's houses.
Local authorities have evacuated people to ensure safety.
At the scene, several very large rocks were found precariously perched on a high cliff or stuck in some tree roots during the landslide and were at risk of continuing to roll down, endangering 17 households with 69 people and the kindergarten in Tu Hon village.
The incident was urgently reported by the People's Committee of Tra Don commune to the People's Committee of Nam Tra My district. The Command Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Nam Tra My district directed the People's Committee of Tra Don commune to urgently organize the emergency evacuation of all households out of the dangerous area to avoid being hit by rolling rocks, and at the same time develop a plan to handle the landslide incident.
Early this morning (December 1), the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Geophysics also recorded two earthquakes with magnitudes of 2.7 and 2.8 on the Richter scale in Kon Plong district.
