People with diabetes need to pay special attention to their diet to control their blood sugar levels. Accordingly, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends that people with diabetes should drink zero-calorie or low-calorie beverages to prevent blood sugar spikes.

Below are drinks suitable for people with diabetes, according to the health website Healthline (USA).

1. Filtered water

Water is the perfect drink for diabetics, as it is sugar-free, calorie-free and pure.

In addition, diabetics can use carbonated mineral water to replace carbonated soft drinks. These types of water are good for diabetics because they do not contain sugar and help rehydrate the body.

Studies have shown that green tea has a positive impact on overall health. A 2021 study of more than 500,000 Chinese people found that drinking green tea daily can significantly reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

In addition, diabetics can use herbal teas such as chamomile tea, ginger tea, and peppermint tea. Herbal teas contain no calories and no sugar, and are rich in antioxidants such as carotenoids, flavonoids, and phenolic acids.

3. Coffee without sugar

According to a 2018 study, drinking coffee may help reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. However, people with diabetes need to drink coffee in moderation, to avoid the caffeine in coffee that can affect health.

4. Vegetable juice

Since fruit juices contain sugar, people should limit them and can try tomato juice or vegetable juice.

Users can also mix green leafy vegetables, celery or cucumbers with some berries to supplement the source of vitamins and minerals. However, in the case of using mixed fruits, diabetics should consider fruits with sugar levels suitable for their health condition.

5. Milk

Milk contains important vitamins and minerals.

Research has found that the fat content of milk has little effect on blood sugar levels. However, diabetics should consider choosing the right type of milk for their health condition and should consult a doctor before using it.
