The benchmark scores of many majors in many schools have fluctuated unexpectedly, not following the pattern of previous years. This has a major impact from the change in the admission method and the equivalent conversion of benchmark scores this year.
STANDARD SCORES SOAR IN "PEDIC" INDUSTRIES
Master Hoang Thanh Tu, Deputy Head of the Information and Communication Department of the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University), said that the admission scores for all majors at the school this year have all increased, including new majors that have met their enrollment targets at high scores. In particular, the advanced computer science program continues to be the major with the highest admission score at the school, at over 29 points for the A00 combination (math - physics - chemistry). According to Master Tu, this admission score trend is due to the fact that this year the number of candidates applying to the school has more than doubled compared to last year, to over 60,000.

Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, Vice Principal of the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), also said that after the 11th virtual filtering, the expected benchmark scores for the school's majors are between 24 and over 29.5 points. "The expected benchmark scores for 2025 this year are clearly differentiated. The benchmark scores for "key" majors such as artificial intelligence and microchip design have skyrocketed. On the contrary, many other majors have benchmark scores that are on a downward trend, in line with the general exam score level and expanding the admission opportunities for PhDs," Dr. Khang added.
Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, also said that this year's admission scores of the school tend to increase evenly in most majors, ranging from 17 to 24.75 points. In particular, the majors that have attracted a large number of students to register in recent years still record admission scores equal to or higher than in 2024, such as: logistics and supply chain management, marketing, law, tourism , information technology, food technology. At the same time, majors in the moderate admission score group of previous years have also increased significantly by 3-4 points, such as: electronics, mechanics, etc. Specifically, the electrical and electronic engineering technology industry increased sharply from 18 points last year to 22 points this year.
N MANY INDUSTRIES DECREASE FROM 1 - 3 POINTS
Vietnam Aviation Academy has recorded a sharp increase in the number of students this year. After 6 virtual screenings nationwide, the standard scores for the academy's majors are expected to increase by 1-4 points compared to 2024. Majors with traditional appeal such as: construction, electricity - electronics, business administration, tourism and travel services management, aviation engineering, flight management and operations... are expected to increase in standard scores. Notably, the electronics - telecommunications, control and automation majors also recorded a significant increase compared to 2024, showing a trend of students being more interested in the fields of engineering technology in aviation.
"This year, the benchmark scores increased across the board, not just in the economic and service groups. It can be seen that the engineering and technology sector (electricity, electronics, automation, artificial intelligence) is becoming the choice of students this year," said a representative of the Vietnam Aviation Academy.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Phung, Deputy Director of the Admissions and Business Relations Center of the University of Finance and Marketing, also said that the predicted benchmark scores for this year's majors will fluctuate between 0.5 and 2 points compared to last year, depending on the major, program and admission method. Last year, the benchmark scores for the university's majors based on high school graduation exam scores were 22 - 25.9. Majors with high benchmark scores include: marketing, international business, accounting, economics, management information systems, etc.
Candidates will take the 2025 high school graduation exam in June. It is expected that on August 22, universities will announce the admission scores for each method.
The representative of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry also said that the benchmark for considering high school graduation exam scores may decrease slightly, other methods may increase compared to last year. Notably, the majors with many candidates registering for admission such as: mechanics, automation, electricity - electronics, the benchmark if decreased insignificantly and some majors are expected to increase. According to the plan, many majors of the school have benchmark scores in the range of 22 - 25 (calculated according to high school graduation exam scores). Corresponding to the method of considering high school learning results is 25 - 29 points, considering the score of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's competency assessment exam is at 750 - 900 points.
Commenting on the general picture of university benchmark scores this year, Associate Professor, Dr. To Van Phuong, Head of Training Department of Nha Trang University, commented: "2025 is considered a pivotal year for university education when welcoming the first batch of PhDs studying under the new program and exam method. The score distribution has decreased, especially in math and English, so the benchmark scores generally tend to decrease. However, at top schools or "hot" majors, benchmark scores still increase because there is no longer early admission, PhDs register for many NV and prioritize their favorite major/school at the highest NV. Therefore, these majors have a high competition rate. On the contrary, most mid-range schools will decrease scores, such as Nha Trang University with a common decrease of 1 - 3 points in most majors and training programs".
In addition, Associate Professor Phuong also said that this year, the number of registered candidates is high, so the virtual ratio is high. "The average number of registered candidates is double, but we can count the number of candidates registering for colleges, so many candidates with average scores will decide to choose to study at colleges," this expert added.
What should successful candidates do?
According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, admitted candidates (including direct admission candidates) must confirm their admission online on the General Admission System within the prescribed time. If they skip this step, they will be considered to have abandoned their admission and their results will be canceled. At the same time, candidates need to follow the announcement of the school they are admitted to in order to carry out admission procedures. If they have confirmed their admission, they will not be allowed to participate in additional admission, unless the principal allows them not to enroll. After the first round, schools that do not have enough quotas will conduct additional admission according to their own plans.
