Come to the Spring Festival to 'Donate blood in early spring - Multiply happiness'

The Red Spring Festival is not simply a blood donation activity, but also a vivid picture of love, where each drop of donated blood carries a story, a hope for patients in need of blood.

That was the sharing of Mr. Nguyen Ha Thanh, Director of the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, at the opening ceremony of the 18th Spring Festival blood donation event with the message "Spring blood donation - Multiplying happiness" on the afternoon of February 11. The program took place at the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.

This is the largest blood donation program every spring. This year, the event will take place for 9 days (from February 8 to 16) at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and fixed blood donation points, expected to receive at least 8,000 units of blood.

Previously, in just 3 days (February 8 to 10), before the official opening, despite the cold weather, the Red Spring Festival received nearly 3,000 units of blood.

Mr. Do Van Hoan (working at the Ministry of National Defense ) and his daughter donated blood at the Spring Festival. Mr. Hoan said he donates blood 3-4 times a year, each time donating 450ml. He said that this is a specific goal, not something spontaneous.

That gave him more determination to do it regularly. Hoan's children were very happy and supported him, they even remembered the schedule and often reminded him to donate blood.

Mr. Truong Manh Linh, his wife and two children came to the Red Spring Festival to donate blood. He shared that in the past, a relative in his family had leukemia and had to receive many blood transfusions, requiring many blood sources to sustain life. Therefore, every time he registered to donate blood, Mr. Linh wanted to bring his two children along to experience and understand the pain of the patient.

Ms. Le Thu Trang (a second-year student at the University of Transport) was also present at the hospital to donate blood. Sitting on the pink Spring Festival chair, Trang said that she had a day off from school today so she came to the hospital to donate blood.

"At the beginning of the year, I want to do something useful. I hope that with the blood shared, it will help patients in need of blood to have a blood source for treatment," Trang shared.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Ha Thanh shared that after 18 years of organizing the Red Spring Festival, we can now be proud that the Red Spring Festival is not simply a blood donation activity, but also a vivid picture of love, where each drop of donated blood carries a story, a hope.

"This is where we can feel the power of humanity, the connection between people, between hearts beating as one," Mr. Thanh shared.

Along with voluntary blood donation activities, the 2025 Spring Festival also has many interesting activities such as double blood donation, blood donor pairing, meeting the families of typical blood donation leaders, etc.

Nearly 120,000 units of blood in 17 years of organization

First held in 2008 to overcome the blood shortage after Tet, since 2010, the Red Spring Festival has been directed by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation to be organized nationwide in the campaign "Promoting Voluntary Blood Donation on Tet - Red Spring Festival".

Over 17 editions, the Red Spring Festival has attracted hundreds of thousands of participants and blood donors from all over the country. In Hanoi alone, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion has hosted and received nearly 120,000 units of blood.
