The Management Board of Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Projects of Ho Chi Minh City (Infrastructure Board) recently proposed the Department of Transport to consider and report to the City People's Committee on the investment in the construction of Vam Thuat Bridge (across the Vam Thuat River), connecting Binh Thanh District and District 12.

Accordingly, the proposed location of Vam Thuat bridge is at Km30+950 of Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canal, which is currently an open canal without a bridge. On the right bank of the bridge is Ward 13, Binh Thanh District - currently a direct traffic route connecting to Dang Thuy Tram Street. On the left bank is An Phu Dong Ward, District 12 - currently without an existing traffic route. According to the proposal, Vuon Lai Street will be extended to the bridge.

Currently, to connect the two banks of the Vam Thuat River, there is only the temporary An Phu Dong iron bridge, with the two ends of the bridge located in Ward 5, Go Vap District and An Phu Dong Ward, District 12.

According to the proposal of the Infrastructure Board, Vam Thuat Bridge will have a reinforced concrete structure, permanent scale. The cross-section of the bridge has a 20m wide span with 4 lanes for motor vehicles, 2 safety strips 0.5m wide, and 2.5m wide sidewalks on both sides. The connecting road to the bridge is 40m wide.

The total investment of the project is about 1,136 billion VND, including construction value of about 329 billion VND and site clearance of about 807 billion VND.

According to the Infrastructure Board, the location of the Vam Thuat Bridge is consistent with the urban planning projects approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. However, to complete the project, it will take time to complete all legal procedures related to compensation and site clearance, especially in District 12. It is expected that the entire project - including preparation, construction and site clearance - will take about 36 months to complete.
