Professor Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training), said that the 2025 high school graduation exam will still closely follow the content of the current GeneralEducation Program (GEP), mainly the 12th grade program, but may also include knowledge from grades 10 and 11.

“The test questions are not outside the curriculum, the thinking level is 40% knowledge level, 30% understanding level and 30% application level. In addition, the test questions also enhance the connection and application of knowledge and skills with reality, especially with differentiated content to accurately assess students' abilities,” said Mr. Ha.

2025 is the first year of implementing the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program with the orientation of developing students' qualities and abilities. Therefore, according to Mr. Ha, candidates need to understand the knowledge and skills in the new general education program with many sets of textbooks, especially the ability to relate to reality. These can also be key and classified parts.

Professor Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training), also affirmed that the high school graduation exam will still follow the general education program that candidates have studied. "Therefore, the contents related to provinces and cities will remain the same as before the Resolution on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units was passed by the National Assembly ," said Mr. Chuong.

Literature subject has changes in score distribution

In the 2025 high school graduation exam, the Literature subject will still be tested in essay format, lasting 120 minutes. However, the exam has changed in terms of score distribution, specifically including 2 parts: Reading Comprehension (4 points) and Writing (6 points).

In previous years, the high school graduation exam for Literature was designed to include 2 parts: Reading Comprehension (3 points) and Writing (7 points). Therefore, candidates need to understand and calculate to have appropriate and effective test-taking strategies.

Math and other multiple choice subjects

The remaining subjects will be tested in multiple-choice format, with Math taking 90 minutes and the remaining subjects taking 50 minutes.

Instead of 50 questions as before, the Math test has been reduced to 22 questions, divided into 3 parts: Part 1 (12 questions), part 2 (4 questions), part 3 (6 questions).

Exams for other subjects also change the number of questions.

As announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, for subjects that will be multiple-choice in the high school graduation exam from 2025, the questions will be divided into 3 parts.

Part 1 consists of multiple choice questions, with 4 options to choose 1 correct answer. For each correct answer, the candidate gets 0.25 points.

Part 2 consists of True/False questions, each question has 4 answers; candidates who choose 1 correct answer get 0.1 point, 2 correct answers get 0.25 points, 3 correct answers get 0.5 points, all 4 correct answers get 1 point.

Part 3 consists of short answer questions. Candidates fill in the box corresponding to the answer they choose. For Math, each correct answer is worth 0.5 points. For other subjects, each correct answer is worth 0.25 points.

Details of the structure and number of questions in each section of the multiple-choice subjects in the 2025 high school graduation exam are as follows:

In 2025, there will be 1,165,289 candidates registered to take the high school graduation exam, an increase of 93,894 compared to 2024 (1,071,395 candidates). Of which, 97.71% (1,138,579) will take the exam under the 2018 general education program; 2.29% (26,711) under the 2006 general education program.

The 2025 high school graduation exam will take place on June 26 and 27; on June 25, candidates will complete exam registration procedures.

From 2025, candidates studying the 2018 General Education Program will take the high school graduation exam with 4 subjects: 2 compulsory subjects (Literature, Mathematics) and 2 elective subjects from grade 12 subjects (Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic & Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology). Candidates will take the exam in 3 sessions: 1 Literature session, 1 Math session, 1 session for 2 elective subjects. Literature is an essay test of 120 minutes (Reading comprehension 4 points, Writing 6 points); Math is a multiple-choice test of 90 minutes; the remaining subjects are multiple-choice for 50 minutes.

Candidates taking the 2006 General Education Program will participate in 4 exam sessions, including 1 Literature exam session, 1 Math exam session, 1 optional Natural Science or Social Science exam session, and 1 Foreign Language exam session.
