Vietnam leads 2025 Asian Muay Championship

On the evening of June 25, at the Thai Nguyen Provincial Sports Stadium, the Organizing Committee of the 2025 Asian Muay Championship held the Closing Ceremony. With a total of 46 medals of all kinds (14 gold, 16 silver, 16 bronze), the Vietnamese Muay team convincingly led the entire delegation.

Boxer Huynh Ha Huu Hieu was noticed on the last day when she competed in the final of the women's 45kg weight class against Thai opponent Klinpaka Somsri. During the matches, Huu Hieu played proactively with accurate scoring attacks, so the female boxer of Ho Chi Minh City Sports and the Vietnam Muay team won, winning the gold medal.

In another final match in the women's 71kg category, two fighters Hoang Thi Thu and Ha Thi Thuy met in an internal competition. At the end of the competition, Hoang Thi Thu won the gold medal. In addition, the Vietnamese Muay team also won gold medals in the men's 54kg category (Huynh Hoang Phi), women's 63.5kg category (Ngo Thi Thu Phuong) and a gold medal in the Muay performance category by athlete Nguyen Dang Anh (U23 age group).

Right after Vietnam in second place is the UAE team with a total of 16 medals (8 gold, 4 silver, 4 bronze). The third place team is Kazakhstan with 20 medals of all kinds (7 gold, 7 silver, 6 bronze). This result shows the clear superiority of the Vietnamese Muay team compared to the remaining opponents.

In addition, the tournament also showed the strength of Muay teams in the Southeast Asian region. Accordingly, the countries in the same region as host Vietnam ranked from 4th to 7th in terms of achievements, including: Thailand with 10 medals of all kinds (6 gold, 4 silver); Philippines won 10 medals (5 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze); Malaysia won 5 medals (2 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) and Indonesia with a total of 8 medals (1 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze).

According to the assessment of the head coach of the national Muay team, Duong Ngoc Hai, in terms of professional quality, the national Muay team has shown much progress compared to previous tournaments. "However, we are not allowed to rest on our laurels. After this tournament, the athletes need to continue to train to prepare for other international tournaments. Our formidable opponents are still Thailand, Kazakhstan and UAE... Only when we prepare carefully and have the highest determination can we continue to succeed," said head coach Duong Ngoc Hai.

The 2025 Asian Muay Thai Championship will be held from June 20 to 25, bringing together more than 300 coaches, athletes, and referees from 19 countries and territories. Athletes will compete for 50 sets of medals in 28 combat weight categories and 8 technical performance events. The Vietnamese Muay Thai team, as the host, has sent 50 athletes to participate in this tournament.
