(Chinhphu.vn) - On the afternoon of July 29 local time, at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland), within the framework of attending the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Ireland Verona Murphy.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his delight at the positive development of bilateral relations in all fields, affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to further deepen the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Ireland, including parliamentary cooperation.

Emphasizing the importance of the Vietnam-EU Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man proposed that the Irish National Assembly soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to further facilitate trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

For her part, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Ireland Verona Murphy affirmed that Ireland will continue to promote trade, investment, education and training cooperation with Vietnam; promote the establishment of the Friendship Parliamentary Group with Vietnam in the Irish Parliament to strengthen parliamentary cooperation; and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation at multilateral forums.

Appreciating the contributions of the Vietnamese community to the socio-economic development of Ireland, Ms. Murphy affirmed that the Republic of Ireland will actively support the Vietnamese community to continue to live, study and integrate successfully, contributing to enhancing understanding between the people of the two countries.

The two leaders agreed to continue to deepen bilateral relations through increasing delegation exchanges at all levels, including between specialized committees and parliamentary groups of the two countries; promoting cooperation in legislative work, people-to-people exchange, and cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, education and training, science and technology, etc.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man invited the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Ireland to pay an official visit to Vietnam at a suitable time. Speaker of the House of Representatives Verona Murphy thanked him and happily accepted the invitation.
