Requesting the police to investigate the information 'spending 1.8 billion to have a boat rowing position' in Hoi An

On the evening of November 23, Mr. Nguyen Van Son - Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province - said that he had asked the police to verify a social media account that posted information about "spending 1.6 to 1.8 billion to have a chance to row a boat and ride a cyclo in Hoi An".

Accordingly, on the same morning, Minh Ohio account posted on Facebook and Tiktok a video filmed in Hoi An city.

The man in the video said: “ To drive the coded boats, the boat owners have to pay somewhere between 1.6 and 1.8 billion to drive every night, operating from 4pm to 10pm. In addition, driving a cyclo in Hoi An ancient town is similar…” .

Up to now, the above article has attracted thousands of interactions and comments.

According to Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee Nguyen Van Son, the information about spending the above amount of money on boat and road operations in the locality is completely fabricated. The local government has requested the City Police, the Department of Information and Communications of Quang Nam Province, and the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City to coordinate in verifying the information of the account owner who posted the above video.

The Chairman of Hoi An City further confirmed that the people who pedal cyclos or drive boats on the river are managed by the Hoi An Cyclo and Boat Association. There are 100 cyclos and nearly 300 boats. These are mostly poor locals who are given favorable conditions by the local authorities to practice their profession.
