Cricket: Adventure to the Swamp has detailed, clear graphics.
The film by director and screenwriter Mai Phuong retains the original literary spirit but retells it with vivid visual language and modern techniques. The character De Men in the film is not only mischievous and competitive like in the story, but is also built closer to today's children with personalities such as curiosity, rich emotions , and knowing how to admit mistakes to grow up. In addition, the supporting characters such as Coc Kien, Bo Dua, Mantis,... all have clear personalities, contributing to enriching the animal world in the film.
The visuals are a significant plus. Although it cannot be compared to the products of famous animation production companies, De Men: The Adventure to Xom Lay Loi is a step forward for Vietnamese animation. Every blade of grass, puddle, raindrop or fighting movement is meticulously invested. The setting of “Xom Lay Loi” appears vivid, multi-layered and rich in detail. The music is also a good supporting factor for the emotions of the film, especially at the climax.
The characters are portrayed vividly and realistically.
What is noteworthy about De Men: Adventure to the Swamp is the way the film gently integrates social messages: from friendship, bravery to responsibility for the community. The film also cleverly emphasizes the environmental factor, when the dangers in the insect world originate from human destruction. This helps the film not only stop at entertainment value but also evokes contemplation for both adults and children.
The appearance of De Men: Adventure to the Swamp is considered a "bounce" for Vietnamese animation, which has long struggled between the limitations of market, budget and technology. For the first time, audiences have witnessed a purely Vietnamese 3D animation competing in theaters, widely distributed and creating significant media effects. The initial success of De Men proves that Vietnamese animation has the potential to go far if invested in the right direction and inspires confidence in young filmmakers and domestic production units who are nurturing original projects imbued with Vietnamese cultural identity.
However, the film still has some shortcomings. The pace of the film is sometimes slow, some dialogue segments are unnatural, the plot is quite simple and lacks suspenseful surprises. But with a total length of more than 90 minutes, De Men still conquers the majority of audiences, especially children.
Closing the journey to “Xom Lậy Lợi”, what remains is not only the story of the main character’s maturity but also a positive signal for Vietnamese animation. When we have the desire to tell stories using Vietnamese materials, modern technology and passion for the profession, we can completely create works with identity, a place and touching the emotions of viewers./.
