The new Phong Chau Bridge across the Red River is located on National Highway 32, built after the old Phong Chau Bridge collapsed due to Typhoon Yagi. The bridge connects Phung Nguyen and Van Xuan communes of Phu Tho province, is 383m long and the approach roads at both ends of the bridge are over 110m each.
The project will be implemented from the end of 2024 under the emergency construction order; with a total investment of more than 635 billion VND from the central budget reserve fund. The Thang Long Project Management Board, under the Ministry of Construction, is the project investor, the construction unit is Army Corps 12 - Truong Son Construction Corporation.
Currently, the units are controlling the progress of the items, some items are ahead of schedule, the total value of the project implementation is over 75%, striving to close the bridge on August 28, complete it by the end of September and open the bridge to traffic in early October.
After the old Phong Chau bridge collapsed, people had difficulty traveling. The Prime Minister directed that this was an emergency situation, and that a contractor had to be selected in special cases, thereby shortening the time by 3 months, while saving a large amount of money compared to the original estimate.
Speaking here, the Prime Minister praised the strong direction of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, the strong participation of the 12th Army Corps with the spirit of working through Tet and holidays; ensuring progress along with the quality of the project, increasingly enhancing the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers". The Prime Minister reiterated the spirit of "Glory only comes to those who are on time", hoping that the units will make efforts to complete the bridge, complete the opening of traffic on schedule, creating favorable conditions for people to travel.

The Prime Minister also surveyed and listened to a report on the proposal of Phu Tho province regarding the construction of a 54km long road connecting Hoa Binh ward (formerly Hoa Binh province) with Viet Tri ward (formerly Phu Tho province). The road will open up new development space, a development corridor along the Da River, especially when the three former provinces of Hoa Binh, Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc are merged into Phu Tho province. The Prime Minister agreed in principle, assigning the Ministry of Construction to develop a plan for the road in the direction of an expressway, connecting with the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau expressway; coordinate with Phu Tho province to establish the project; complete procedures within 1 year.
On the same day, the Prime Minister surveyed the construction route of the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway through Phu Tho province. The Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway project is about 419km long, starting at the rail connection point across the border of Lao Cai province, ending at Lach Huyen station, Hai Phong city, with a total capital of more than 203,000 billion VND, equivalent to 8.37 billion USD. According to the Resolution of the National Assembly, the project will start construction in December 2025 and strive to be completed by 2030 at the latest.
The Prime Minister said that this is a strategic railway in the Kunming - Hanoi - Hai Phong economic corridor, connecting with China - Central Asia and Europe. Therefore, the project should be implemented soon and completed soon to bring benefits.
The Prime Minister requested Phu Tho province to develop a project on site clearance, separate from the general project; organize the ground clearance groundbreaking on August 19.
