Stabbing at Chinese kindergarten, 6 people died

At least six people were killed and one injured in a stabbing at a kindergarten in Guangdong province, China.

Police in Guangdong Province, southeastern China, announced that they had arrested a male suspect, Wu Mojie, 25, who carried out a stabbing attack at a kindergarten in Lianjiang County, southern China at 7:40 a.m. (6:40 a.m. Hanoi time) on July 10.

Locals said the suspect entered the school armed with a knife and attacked, killing at least six people, some of whom were stabbed at the school gate. Ngo was arrested about 20 minutes after committing the crime.

A spokesman for the Lien Giang government said the dead included a teacher, two parents and three children, and one person was injured. Police are investigating Ngo's motive, describing it as a "premeditated attack" but did not release further details about the suspect's relationship to the victims.

China has strict gun control laws, but knife crime is a major problem in the country. Knife attacks are common in schools across the country, with the attackers often motivated by a desire to “take revenge on society,” prompting Chinese authorities to beef up security at these locations as a precaution.

In August 2022, a 48-year-old man armed with a knife attacked a kindergarten in Jiangxi Province, eastern China, killing at least three people and injuring six. In April 2021, two children were killed and 16 others injured when a man armed with a knife attacked a kindergarten in southern China.
