Ensuring efficient harvesting, processing and consumption of durian

The Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee has just issued a Directive on durian production and consumption for the 2025 crop, requiring departments, branches, localities and enterprises to synchronously deploy solutions to ensure the harvesting, processing and consumption of durian are highly effective, meeting export standards, especially for the Chinese market.

Dak Lak currently has about 40,000 hectares of durian, of which the harvest area is about 26,600 hectares, with an expected output of 392,000 tons (an increase of 30,000 tons compared to 2024).

2025 is an important harvest in the context that durian continues to maintain its position as a key agricultural export product after Vietnam signed a Protocol with China on exporting fresh (2022) and frozen (2024) durian.

However, during the export process, some shipments were still warned due to violations of regulations on plant quarantine (mealybugs) and food safety (Cadmium residue, Yellow O substance). The Provincial People's Committee requires that, in order to maintain reputation and brand, strict compliance with production, harvesting, preliminary processing and packaging processes is mandatory.

The directive clearly states that the Chairmen of the People's Committees of communes and wards must strictly control the newly planted areas, prevent the situation of "hot" increase that disrupts the balance of crops; manage the codes of growing areas and packaging facilities; prevent the harvesting of young durians, ensuring the standard ripeness (125 - 135 days for the Dona variety; 110 - 120 days for the Ri6 variety). Violations will be strictly handled.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to promote technology transfer, digital application in production, processing, and traceability; strengthen food safety monitoring, post-harvest handling, cold storage, and deep processing to improve quality and added value.

The Department of Industry and Trade is responsible for coordinating the inspection of purchasing activities, preventing price gouging, and promoting trade and connecting consumption through the retail and e-commerce systems.

The Provincial People's Committee also requested the Provincial Police to strengthen inspection and handling of fraud in growing area codes, packaging facilities and ensuring supply chain security.

State Bank Region 11 is assigned to direct credit institutions to prioritize capital for durian production, processing and export.

For growing areas, packaging facilities and exporting enterprises, the Directive requires absolute compliance with technical procedures, plant quarantine, food safety; not using Yellow O; only exporting when 100% of products are controlled from growing areas to packaging to avoid warnings and code suspensions from China.
