On June 18, the People's Committee of Dak Lak province announced that the leaders of the People's Committees of Dak Lak and Phu Yen provinces signed a submission to the Prime Minister, proposing an investment plan to build the Phu Yen - Dak Lak expressway under the public-private partnership (PPP) method and BOT contract.
The expressway is expected to be about 122km long, starting at the intersection with the North-South Expressway in the East (through Phu Yen ), and ending at National Highway 14 (through Dak Lak). The project has a scale of 4 lanes, with a total investment of more than 29,600 billion VND, and will be implemented from 2025 to 2029.

The expressway plays the role of a strategic East-West connection axis, connecting the Central Highlands with the South Central Coast, synchronously connecting seaports, dry ports, airports, border gates, economic zones, industrial parks and important economic corridors. The project is included in the national road network planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
Currently, National Highway 29 is the main route between the two localities, but it has degraded, the road surface is narrow, the curve radius is small, and does not meet the requirements of socio-economic development. Early investment in the expressway is urgent in the context of Dak Lak and Phu Yen merging according to the National Assembly Resolution, forming a new Dak Lak province from 2025.
The two provinces proposed that the Prime Minister approve the adjustment of the investment process before 2030, allowing investment in the form of PPP and arranging central budget capital in the 2026-2030 medium-term plan.
