With a series of community art activities, heritage preservation, and connecting traditional and contemporary culture, the coastal city is proving that culture is not only a spiritual foundation but also a driving force for sustainable development.
Da Nang was once considered the "city of constructions" with modern architectural symbols such as Dragon Bridge, Tran Thi Ly Bridge or Trung Vuong Theater.
However, in the past 5 years, the city government has had a clearer orientation on the cultural development strategy associated with local identity, enhancing the role of culture in urban living space.
Culture – core element in development strategy
A notable highlight is the investment in community art activities. The mural streets in Thanh Khe Dong ward, Phuoc Ninh ward or My An beach area are becoming new destinations for tourists and locals.
Da Nang Museum is a cultural project invested with a system of scientific and aesthetic exhibitions and interpretations and modern facilities. With nearly 3,000 documents and artifacts selected from 27,000 documents and artifacts, combining traditional exhibition style with modern projection technology; especially the application of 3D Mapping and interactive 3D Mapping, 3D films, documentaries and image slides to increase the experience and interaction for visitors.
Street art not only beautifies public spaces, but also conveys messages about environmental protection, heritage preservation, and inspires love for the homeland in the young generation.
In parallel, outdoor art performances such as "Street Dance", "Music by the Han River", "Son Tra Night Market" are also held periodically.
These events contribute to forming the habit of enjoying art for the people, while promoting the vibrant and friendly culture of the city to international tourists.
Despite being a modern city, Da Nang still possesses many valuable traditional cultural values. Traditional craft villages such as Nam O (fish sauce making), Non Nuoc (stone carving), Tuy Loan (rice paper), Phong Nam (ancient village lifestyle) are preserved by the government and the community.
Danang International Fireworks Festival – DIFF organized by Danang People's Committee in coordination withSun Group Corporation is the most anticipated cultural and tourist event every summer in the central coastal city.
In 2024, the People's Committee of Da Nang City approved the project "Developing community cultural spaces in heritage villages" with the goal of building cultural experiential destinations, connecting tradition and modernity.
Phong Nam ancient village (Hoa Vang) was chosen as the first pilot site, with programs such as: restoring ancient houses, organizing weekend rural markets, performing Bai Choi and Central Vietnamese folk songs.
Projects to restore historical relics such as Dien Hai Citadel, Hai Chau communal house, Van Thanh Khe, Tich Thien Duong ancient house, etc. have been implemented systematically, with the support of experts and the people.
This is an important step to rekindle the source of urban memories in the community's consciousness, especially the young generation.
Connecting culture and tourism: A sustainable direction
One of the bright spots of Da Nang culture today is the trend of bringing art into daily life.
Creative spaces such as “Da Nang Souvenirs & Café”, “Zone Da Nang”, “Museum Café”, “BaMi Gallery” are becoming meeting places for young people who love art, photography, painting and indie music.

Young artist groups are also playing an important role in shaping new urban cultural identities.
The “DaNang Art Street” group with a series of interactive murals on the East bank of the Han River; the “Coi Re” group organizing acoustic music nights, outdoor film screenings and folk culture discussions… are proof of the new vitality of Da Nang’s youth.
In addition, the city also focuses on developing specialized cultural activities. Nguyen Hien Dinh Tuong Theater, Trung Vuong Theater, Da Nang Museum, Fine Arts Museum... are gradually improving their programs and approaches to young audiences and tourists.
In particular, since 2023, the city has launched "Da Nang Cultural Heritage Week" every November to honor heritage and connect with the community.
Not only stopping at internal development, Da Nang culture is gradually connecting more deeply with the tourism industry, moving towards the model of "cultural tourism experience".
In 2025, the city will continue to expand the "Da Nang Culinary Passport" model - a creative initiative to help tourists explore cuisine through routes associated with local history and culture.
Ngu Hanh Son scenic tourist area is located in the southeast of Da Nang city, about 8 km from the city center, with a favorable geographical location, a destination for tourists on the Central Heritage Road: Hue Ancient Capital - Ngu Hanh Son - Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Temple Relics.
In addition, Da Nang also cooperates with neighboring localities such as Hue, Quang Nam, and Kon Tum to develop tourism products along the Central Highlands - Central region cultural and heritage axis.
The Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2025 with the theme “Da Nang – Colors of World Culture” will open in June, promising to become a highlight event contributing to bringing Da Nang culture to the world.
According to the urban development orientation to 2030, Da Nang identifies “developing a creative, livable and unique city” as a consistent goal. In which, culture plays a core role in defining the value and brand of the city.
The city is gradually perfecting grassroots cultural institutions, expanding libraries, cultural centers, and free reading spaces, to ensure equal access to culture for all classes of people.
Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, once emphasized: “To develop quickly but sustainably, it is necessary to rely on a cultural foundation. Culture is the internal force, the soul of a city with identity.”
With strategic vision, concrete steps and community support, Da Nang culture is transforming strongly, becoming the glue connecting the past and present, between the local community and international tourists.
It is also the journey to affirm identity, enhance internal strength and move towards a sustainable future of the city on the Han River.
