Former General Director of Da Nang Housing Company gets sentence reduced

On June 30, the High-Level People's Court in Da Nang opened an appeal hearing for the case of "Violating regulations on management and use of State assets causing loss and waste" occurring at Da Nang Housing Development Investment Joint Stock Company.

The defendants in the case include: Nguyen Quang Trung (63 years old, residing in Hoa Thuan Tay ward, Cam Le district, Da Nang city, former General Director of Da Nang Housing Company), Lam Phung Tien (57 years old, former Accountant), Bui Le Duy (45 years old, former Director of the Enterprise), Nguyen Hoang Phuong Uyen (54 years old, former Head of Finance Department) and Le Thi Thu Ha (46 years old, former Accountant of the Enterprise).

The defendants were tried for violating regulations on management and use of state assets, causing loss and waste.

After consideration, the appellate panel accepted the appeal for a reduction in the sentence of defendant Nguyen Quang Trung, sentencing him to 3 years and 6 months in prison, a reduction of 1 year and 6 months compared to the previous sentence. The defendant and Le Thi Thu Ha also had their sentences reduced to 3 years of suspended imprisonment. The appellate panel upheld the original sentence for the remaining defendants.

Previously, at the first instance verdict, the People's Court of Da Nang City sentenced Nguyen Quang Trung to 5 years in prison. The defendants Bui Le Duy, Nguyen Hoang Phuong Uyen and Le Thi Thu Ha were each sentenced to 3 years in prison, and defendant Lam Phung Tien to 2 years and 6 months in prison.

After the verdict, Nguyen Quang Trung and the defendants filed an appeal requesting a partial reduction in their sentences. In particular, the former General Director of Da Nang Housing Development Investment Joint Stock Company appealed with the following content: The first instance sentence was too harsh, the defendant suffered from myocardial infarction, his biological parents had resistance medals, the defendant had an elderly mother who needed care...

According to the indictment, Danang Housing Company is a state-owned enterprise in which the Danang City People's Committee holds 100% of the equity.

Defendant Nguyen Quang Trung, while serving as the leader of Da Nang Housing Company, decided to transfer state assets at land plot No. 186 Tran Phu (Hai Chau, Da Nang), causing a loss to the state of more than 1.4 billion VND.

In addition, defendants Nguyen Quang Trung, Nguyen Hoang Phuong Uyen, Bui Le Duy, and Le Thi Thu Ha took inventory of assets at 31 Nui Thanh (Hai Chau, Da Nang) to prepare a dossier to determine the value of the equitized enterprise, which was not in accordance with regulations. As a result, they caused a loss of more than 1.1 billion VND in state assets.

The total amount of state money lost is more than 2.6 billion VND.
