Apple is getting closer to launching its first foldable iPhone, after years of speculation and delays. According to industry sources, the device has entered the final stages of development and is ready for mass production. If all goes according to plan, it will be a formidable rival to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, the current top foldable phone.
The first reason why a foldable iPhone could be different is that Apple is focusing on solving the screen crease problem, a persistent weakness of foldable devices. To date, most foldable phones on the market, including the Galaxy Z Fold7, still leave visible creases over time. Apple seems determined not to launch a foldable product until it can completely fix this detail.
According to supply chain reports, Apple is developing the most advanced hinge and display yet, with the goal of eliminating the crease entirely. While there is no official confirmation, if Apple does achieve this, they will be the first company on the market to do so.
The second reason lies in battery life. Recent leaks suggest that the foldable iPhone will have a battery capacity of 5,000-5,500 mAh, much larger than the 4,400 mAh of the Galaxy Z Fold7. The device's thickness of about 9.5 mm could allow Apple to fit a larger battery, along with the ability to optimize with iOS 26 and AI features to better manage the battery.
Of course, the first foldable iPhone is hardly perfect. Some reports suggest that Apple’s device may be inferior to the Fold7 in some screen specifications. However, for users already familiar with the Apple ecosystem, a foldable iPhone is still a more attractive option than any Android device.
If Apple can really solve the problem of folding and battery life, their product will create great attraction not only for iOS users, but also for a part of Android users. At that time, Samsung will be forced to significantly upgrade with the Galaxy Z Fold8 if it does not want to lose the advantage right in the playground that it has exploited.
