The accused provided false information about the loss of his green card to the police in order to obtain a loss affidavit, which he used to submit to the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City in order to return to the US.

The Consulate General informed Ben Nghe ward police about the incident and the subject was arrested later.

Falsifying the reason for losing a green card or failing to provide truthful information to a U.S. Consulate or U.S. federal law enforcement officer is a serious crime that can affect the offender's immigration status, the U.S. Consulate General announced.

The U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City advises all permanent residents to take good care of their green cards, keep them in a safe place, and recommends using other forms of identification, such as a U.S. driver's license or Vietnamese citizen/national identity card.

The U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City also notes that all applicants wishing to travel to the United States must always present valid, unaltered documents. Applicants who submit falsified documents may be permanently barred from entering the United States.
