Dak Lak teacher slapped male student for looking at documents during test was fined 3.75 million VND and had to publicly apologize to the student.
The penalty decision was made by the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot City on the morning of May 26. The 54-year-old teacher at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School was punished for physically abusing a student, according to Decree 04/2021 of the Government on this matter.
In addition, authorities asked the female teacher to publicly apologize to the students.
The incident happened on May 9, during the second semester Geography exam of grade 8 at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School. Camera footage shows a male student sitting at the front desk looking down at a piece of paper pulled from his pocket. The female teacher discovered it, walked down from the podium, and slapped the male student twice on the cheek.
Working with the police, the teacher said she slapped the student because she was upset about his use of the document. When the school asked her to apologize to the student’s family, she refused.

The family of the boy who was slapped acknowledged that their son's behavior was wrong and asked the school to take strict action. "The school needs to handle the situation according to regulations such as suspending him from taking the exam. Even if he did poorly, the school can let him repeat the class," said the boy's mother.
Currently, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School has not yet taken any disciplinary action against the teacher or the male student in the incident. Previously, the school representative said that the male student who cheated could have his exam score deducted and his conduct grade reduced by one level.
