The wedding music was bustling in the small house in Phu Trung commune, Phu Rieng, Binh Phuoc . Sitting in the small room, Hong Nhung anxiously looked outside. After the groom's family finished some rituals, Nhung was carried out by her father and handed over to the groom Thanh Duong. Receiving Hong Nhung from his father-in-law's hands, Duong could not hide his emotions. His eyes were red. Witnessing that scene, many people attending the engagement also cried. Everyone silently blessed the young couple and congratulated Hong Nhung for now finding a new "pair of legs". Hong Nhung was born in 2001 with a healthy body, but at the age of 5 she had a health problem. One afternoon after school, Nhung felt pain in her legs. Thinking that her child was just uncomfortable and in pain, her parents gave her painkillers. Despite taking the medicine and resting, Nhung still felt stomachache and gradually lost feeling in her legs. The family rushed her to the hospital in Dong Xoai and then to Ho Chi Minh City for examination. Nhung's parents were stunned when they first heard the name of the disease "transverse myelitis" - the disease that their beautiful little daughter unfortunately contracted.

The doctor explained that transverse myelitis is an acute injury that occurs in a segment of the spinal cord, causing the patient to lose sensation in the damaged area, have sphincter disorders, and motor paralysis. Hong Nhung was therefore completely paralyzed from the navel down, unable to urinate actively. Since then, Nhung has been confined to a wheelchair. During the initial period, the whole family's life was turned upside down when her mother took care of her younger sibling and became Nhung's legs. The disease caused difficulty in urinating. To overcome this, Nhung and her mother found a way to create a habit of personal hygiene every 3 hours. From the time she got sick until grade 9, the girl from Binh Phuoc and her mother were always inseparable. Her mother carried Nhung to school every day and helped her go to the toilet. The older she got, the more she understood her physical disability, so Nhung became more self-conscious. After finishing middle school, Nhung decided to drop out of school because high school was 15km from home. "At that time, I often thought pessimistically, thinking that I could not be independent and had to rely on others too much. If I continued to go to school, my mother would have to quit her job, taking me to and from school every day would be very difficult. My parents loved me and wanted me to go to school. But I thought that if I stayed at home, I would help ease the burden on my parents," Hong Nhung shared with Dan Tri reporter. Having quit school, every morning seeing her friends with school bags riding through the alley, Nhung longed to go to school but did not have the courage. Thinking back later, she felt regretful that she had not been stronger and tried harder. At home, Nhung lived a closed life, each day passing boringly within four walls. 2016 marked the turning point when the young girl stepped out into the outside world .

At that time, a close friend invited Hong Nhung to learn makeup. Seeing that she was suitable for this profession, she begged her mother to let her go to school. Because she was worried about her daughter having to travel 15km to class every day, at first, Nhung's mother objected. However, seeing her daughter's determination, she gradually softened. Equipping herself with a profession to make a living, Hong Nhung became more confident and gradually opened her heart. She and her close friend accepted makeup clients, many days accepting to go early or come home late to beautify clients depending on each wedding or party. Through the process of working, she gradually realized the potential of the beauty industry, so she registered for additional tattoo classes. Nhung's job gradually stabilized. She rented her own shop, and each month she had a better source of income. Nhung also had more friends and close customers.

Finding joy in her work, but every time someone mentioned love, Hong Nhung would change the subject. She always thought that she would never get married. With that thought in mind, Nhung closed her heart when a guy wanted to text or chat. But then, Thanh Duong (born in 1999)'s feelings made her change her mind. Duong was a friend of Hong Nhung's brother-in-law. Through conversations with his friend, Duong heard about Hong Nhung. Although he had never met her, he secretly had a good impression of the petite but strong-willed girl. "Once, through a photo on social media on his brother-in-law's personal page, Duong texted to get to know me," Hong Nhung said.

At first, the girl also sent a reply message as a way to maintain social etiquette. However, gradually Duong's questions and concerns made her moved. Nhung's beauty shop is located on the road Duong goes to work every day. Therefore, he visits her every day, buys her snacks... Thanh Duong is a quiet person, rarely expressing his feelings through words. Instead, he takes care of Hong Nhung from the smallest things. He doesn't hesitate to clean up if Nhung accidentally goes to the toilet and is ready to carry her to the toilet... When in love, Duong doesn't confess his love first and then go home to meet her parents, but does the opposite of the usual "process".

Hong Nhung recalled: "He took me to meet my parents to reassure both of them. He also took me to meet his mother. From then on, we officially became a couple." According to Hong Nhung, she and his mother had never met or known each other before. However, from the first meeting, she treated her like a daughter, making her choked with emotion. "I thought my mother would oppose our relationship because no one wants their son to marry a girl with a disability. But I didn't expect her to tell her son: "I won't say who you love, but if you love Nhung, you have to be serious," she recalled. The short sentence was enough for Nhung to understand that she loved her very much. Getting to know each other in February 2023, 9 months later, Hong Nhung and Thanh Duong decided to get married. Their happiness was even more sublime when both received good news.

Nhung had heard and talked with girls with the same disease as her about the ability to have children, so she gradually raised her hope. "This disease does not affect the baby, it only affects the mother because the mother's spine is weak. When pregnant, the spine will be curved, making it more difficult to move, causing pain. However, I accept the trade-off just to give birth to a healthy child," the determined girl said. Hong Nhung became pregnant naturally a few months after her wedding. When the pregnancy test showed two lines, the couple could not believe their eyes and checked again many times. In the following months, they anxiously counted the days hoping to hold their child in their arms. A mother's instinct helped Nhung overcome the pain. A few days after giving birth, she was able to feed and lull her child to sleep. Because of her weak back, Nhung could not hold her child much. Luckily, she had her mother, mother-in-law and Thanh Duong to help her take care of her child.
