Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria and Senegal Tran Quoc Khanh emphasized the significance of the official visit to Senegal by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation from July 22-24.
Ambassador Tran Quoc Khanh stated that the official visit to Senegal by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation is of extremely important and historic significance.
This is the highest-level visit ever in nearly 60 years since Vietnam and Senegal established diplomatic relations (December 29, 1969 - December 29, 2025).
The visit takes place at a very special time for both Vietnam and Senegal, marking a turning point in bilateral relations.
In recent years, Senegal has been considered one of the most dynamically developing economies in West Africa. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), by 2025, Senegal could achieve a growth rate of 8.3% - the highest in West Africa.
Senegal has also just completed the process of perfecting its political apparatus, after successfully organizing the presidential election (March 2024), forming a government and holding early parliamentary elections (November 2024).
For Vietnam, we have just successfully carried out a very meaningful task, which is to convert the government model from three levels to two levels, officially taking effect from July 1, 2025.
In that context, the visit of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man is expected to open up new cooperation prospects, promote friendly relations and bring bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Senegal into greater depth and substance.
The visit also affirmed Vietnam's policy of strengthening cooperation with African countries.
Ambassador Tran Quoc Khanh said that within the framework of the visit, in addition to the main content of enhancing cooperation between the two countries' legislative bodies, members of the Vietnamese delegation, including many leaders of the Government, ministries, localities, and enterprises, will also directly discuss with the Senegalese side on measures to promote cooperation in many fields such as trade, agriculture, science, technology, investment, and people-to-people exchange.
It is estimated that there are about 3,000 Vietnamese and Vietnamese-origin people in Senegal. The Vietnamese community organization in Senegal, Kim Hoi (USENINDO), was established in November 2016 and has gathered over 100 Vietnamese families in Dakar to participate, actively promote the image and culture of Vietnam and has been recognized as a legal entity by the Senegalese government.
Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang emphasized: National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation visited the Republic of Senegal and will soon pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco, then attend the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament and conduct bilateral activities in Switzerland.
This important visit of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man aims to implement the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, proactiveness, activeness, comprehensiveness, depth and effectiveness of international integration of the 13th National Party Congress, Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW of the Politburo on international integration in the new situation, as well as Conclusion No. 125-KL/TW of the Secretariat on strengthening the implementation of Directive No. 25-CT/TW on promoting and enhancing multilateral diplomacy by 2030.
