Chrome can detect malicious websites in real time

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên16/03/2024

According to TechSpot , Google has just announced two new security features for the Chrome web browser, helping users feel more secure when surfing the web without worrying about malware and information-stealing scams.

The first is a significant upgrade to Safe Browsing, bringing real-time URL protection to desktop and mobile. The second is a series of password protection measures that improve the security of Chrome on iOS.

The Safe Browsing feature has been available on Chrome for a long time, providing protection for users from dangerous websites by downloading a database of known malicious URLs and comparing them to the websites they visit. Previously, Chrome usually updated this list every 30 - 60 minutes. However, this was not enough to fully protect all users because the average malicious website only existed for less than 10 minutes.

Malicious website warning on Chrome browser

So to make Safe Browsing more effective, Chrome will now check websites in real time against a list of malicious websites stored on Google's servers. If a dangerous website is detected, the browser will display a security risk warning. By checking websites against a regularly updated list, Google predicts that Chrome can block up to 25% of phishing attempts.

In addition, Google claims that the new feature completely respects user privacy and no one other than the user knows what websites they have visited.

While real-time protection will require more resources, Google says its engineers have worked to ensure the user experience remains consistent across both desktop and mobile. The new Safe Browsing mode is available now on desktop and iOS, and will be available on Android later this month.
