Nguyen Dinh Chieu, a true Confucian scholar and great poet of the Vietnamese people, clearly understood that the "religion" he was talking about was not simply a spiritual aspect, but also reflected the elevation of the nation, the positive progress and development of society. His thought of "stabbing a few evil men and the pen will not be evil" is a declaration of fighting spirit, determination, a manifestation of patriotism and a noble sense of responsibility.
In the following century, in the process of finding a way to save the country, Nguyen Ai Quoc was deeply aware of the great role of the press in organizing and gathering the masses to voluntarily participate in the revolutionary movement. Right from the days of working in France, Nguyen Ai Quoc participated in founding the newspapers Le Paria, L'Humanité, to spread the theory of proletarian revolution. Returning to the country to directly lead the Vietnamese revolution, he founded Thanh Nien newspaper, the first issue was published on June 21, 1925, opening a new journalism line: Vietnamese revolutionary journalism. His teachings on the role and responsibility of writers, on content, objects, purposes and methods of propaganda... from that time are still valuable lessons for journalists today.
Uncle Ho considered the press as a means to mobilize and gather revolutionary forces, organize and implement revolutionary goals in the fastest, most extensive and effective way. Therefore, no matter how difficult the circumstances were and at any stage or situation, Uncle Ho was still determined to found, direct and publish revolutionary newspapers. At the 2nd Congress of the Vietnam Journalists Association (April 16, 1959), President Ho Chi Minh advised journalists: “All journalists must have a firm political stance. Politics must be the master. Only when the political line is correct can other things be correct”. At the 3rd Congress of the Vietnam Journalists Association, he pointed out: “The task of the press is to serve the people, to serve the revolution. That is the task of our entire Party, our entire people, and also the task of our press”.
Imbued with the teachings of beloved Uncle Ho, the revolutionary press has continuously grown and matured, always taking the lead in propagating Marxism-Leninism, the Party's revolutionary policies and lines, mobilizing and encouraging all classes of people to firmly believe in the Party, unite as one, carry out the successful General Uprising (1945), establish the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, opening the era of national independence associated with socialism. The revolutionary press has accompanied the nation to consecutive victories in the resistance wars against the French colonialists and the invading American imperialists, completing the national and democratic revolution, leading the whole country to socialism. During the period of renovation, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has continued to flourish and develop rapidly in terms of quantity, quality, content, form, technical means and technology, having a special "position" and profound impact on social life.
In the era of open information, in addition to having to compete fiercely with social networks and facing the spread of fake news and misinformation, revolutionary press is always a tool to protect the Party's ideological foundation. As the official voice of the Party and the State, revolutionary press upholds the sense of responsibility, fights and refutes promptly and effectively erroneous and hostile viewpoints, and manifestations of "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" within the Party with scientific , rigorous and highly convincing arguments.
Along with that, promote propaganda about the Party's guidelines and policies, reflect good people and good deeds, contributing to strengthening people's trust in the Party's leadership and the government's management. Regularly publishing articles on political theory and summarizing practical Party building work helps improve the theoretical thinking of cadres and Party members, and defeat the sinister plots of hostile and reactionary forces.
To continue fulfilling their mission, accompanying the nation in the era of development, prosperity, civilization and prosperity, press agencies nationwide need to fully and deeply grasp the principle: The Party's absolute and comprehensive leadership over press activities to meet the needs of the cause of innovation, construction and development of the country. The team of journalists continues to affirm their pioneering role in the fight against corruption, waste and negativity. Regardless of danger, many journalists and press agencies have devoted themselves to investigating and persistently pursuing to the end to expose violations, contributing to cleaning up the apparatus, protecting justice, maintaining discipline and strengthening the people's trust in the Party and the State.
The Standing Secretariat suggested that Party committees, authorities and press agencies need to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the principle of the Party's comprehensive and absolute leadership over press activities. This is a core and fundamental issue that has been confirmed by practice and is a characteristic of Vietnam's revolutionary press. In addition, the press needs to closely follow practice, fully, deeply and promptly propagate the Party's major policies and the State's policies and laws; honestly reflect the breath of life; accompany the work of reorganizing the political system, renewing the growth model, developing science and technology and international integration... Hopefully, there will be more "unscrupulous" press works, for the people, by the people, and worthy of being "revolutionary soldiers" in the new era.
