Along with the ao dai and lotus flowers - two unique cultural symbols - are calligraphy works expressing unique verses in the Tale of Kieu by the great poet Nguyen Du. These cultural symbols have blended together, honored and brought a special and unprecedented viewing space for lovers of Vietnamese heritage and culture.
The event was jointly organized by the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund, the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam, and Sen House Vietnam Company, honoring the humanistic values in the thoughts of the Great Poet Nguyen Du and the Vietnamese cultural identity through the image of the lotus flower.
It is quite interesting that this is the opening activity of a series of journeys to spread Kieu culture, which is expected to continue to spread widely in the near future.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund, Head of the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club, and President of Sen House Vietnam Company said: "The exhibition introduces 32 calligraphy works, most of which show unique verses in Nguyen Du's Tale of Kieu, especially verses that directly mention or evoke the image of the lotus flower with subtle metaphorical value."
The exhibition space also introduces a portrait of the great poet Nguyen Du made from dried lotus leaves placed in a special design, helping viewers visualize the study space of a Confucian scholar, humble yet noble.
At the exhibition, visitors can also admire some unique handicrafts associated with the lotus image, vivid proof that "lotus culture" has become an indispensable part of the spiritual life of Vietnamese people.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam shared that from her love for the flower that carries the Vietnamese soul to her role as a lotus collector, she has organized many exhibitions to promote the beauty of lotus. The cultural space “Lotus and Kieu” seemed to come to her by chance, bringing deep emotions.
“Nguyen Du left behind the immortal masterpiece Truyen Kieu . Lotus flowers and Ao Dai are unique symbols in the flow of Vietnamese culture. Through this exhibition, I hope to send to viewers, especially young people, a message about the spread of unique values through traditional cultural symbols in the Vietnamese soul...,” Ms. Tam emphasized.
The passionate collector also expressed that this exhibition is the beginning of a series of journeys to promote Kieu culture, a tour for students or those who love the Tale of Kieu to Nguyen Du's hometown to better understand the cultural values that the Great Poet left behind.
“In particular, the Tale of Kieu has been translated into 22 languages. I hope that one day I will be able to bring this exhibition along with the lotus-patterned ao dai to introduce to the public of those countries...”, Ms. Tam said.
Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Tru, Chairman of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund, shared that the Lotus and Kieu Cultural Space is an initiative of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund, directly led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, a collector with the largest lotus collection in the country.
With unique perspectives created from love for traditional culture, the exhibition shows great appeal to the public and heritage lovers, right from its name.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Tru, Lotus and Kieu combine to illustrate and complement each other, connecting generations, and working together to promote Vietnamese cultural heritage.
Within the framework of the event, visitors to the opening exhibition enjoyed the performance of the Ao Dai collection called "Sac Sen Ha Thanh" by designer Lan Huong.
“The portrait of Kieu is immersed in the pure lotus scent, the connection of love with nature, all things and the intersection of the universe. All of these features are conveyed in each Ao Dai, contributing to honoring the graceful beauty of women in general and Kieu in poetry in particular,” designer Lan Huong expressed.
The exhibition will run until June 15, 2025. During this time, calligraphers will hold workshops, and young people and visitors can experience drawing lotus and writing Kieu verses.
Following the event is a series of meaningful activities in the Heritage Journey connecting and experiencing Kieu culture. The journey connecting the cultural heritage of Thang Long - Nghe An aims to help us understand more about the cultural exchange between the two regions, contributing to producing talented people for the homeland, connecting the past - present and future.
Especially the cultural experience program Kieu, a literary masterpiece by Nguyen Du with timeless values expressed through art forms.
The Heritage Journey connecting and experiencing Kieu culture aims to celebrate the 260th anniversary of the birth and 205th anniversary of the death of the World Cultural Celebrity - Great National Poet Nguyen Du, organized by Sen House Vietnam, Nguyen Tien Dien Family Council, ATIM Consulting, FYT-Viet Lotus, Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club - Bui family.
“This is a meaningful and interesting journey that will bring us to the heritage values of famous people, provide us with core values to maintain and promote the fine traditions of a family lineage, and explain the mysteries of the homeland of talented people…”, said Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam.
